Damon and Carlton just left the fans on the side walk with the promise of
a return when the show starts at 7, LA time. This was so cool. Rev Milo
captured and streamed live the event on Ustream.

ODI says:
Apparently there are two clues in the new and final poster that was
revealed tonight as a part of the LOST Underground Art Project ARG.
While I was at the event and getting Damon Lindelof's autograph, I asked
him about the clues and he pointed at one of the parts of the poster. I
asked him what it meant and he said you guys figure it out now. Also, I
asked about the second clue and he said that he gave me one and that we
all needed to figure out the other one.
So he pointed at the flaming Ankh that Hurley is holding

We'll probably have to wait until someone gets the poster and scans
it, but I'm wondering about the black & white counter-looking thing in
the plane wreckage. Does it read "080" or "OSO" (possibly upside-
down)?
I don't recall anything like this previously being shown. "Oso" is
"bear" in Spanish, and OSO was the Orbiting Solar Observatory. It
seems more likely that it's numbers, but why 080?
That one's funny, but the MIB painting is *fabulous*:

The Lost news is breaking so fast today it is hard to keep up. Here is
another interview by TVGuide done after last nights Gallery 1988 event:
Prepare yourself, the sixth and final season of Lost is approaching.
Obviously, executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have been
very tight-lipped about the fate of the Losties after the explosion at the
hatch, but they did find time to tease just a few tidbits at Tuesday
night's unveiling of the 16th and final poster in the
damoncarltonandapolarbear.com collection. (Said poster holds a few clues
itself, but we're still working on that.) In the meantime, Lindelof and
Cuse tell TVGuide.com which is their favorite poster, how they feel
heading into the final season and what fans should expect when the show
premieres
http://www.tvguide.com/News/Lost-Bosses-Playing-1013146.aspx?rss=news
TVGuide.com: We hear there are some little hints in the final poster. What
should fans take away from viewing this?
Cuse: I think you should look in there and there will be a couple of clues
to the final season that are embedded in that poster. It will make a lot
of sense once you've actually seen a few episodes of the show.
Lindelof: You should look at the poster and think of the things you've
seen on the show, and then whatever else is left, that's a clue for Season
6.

If they have such an embargo on spoilers, then how is it that they
told the creator of the poster enough so that he was able to include
clues in the poster? Riddle me this! ;-)

Easy, just issue a stand down order on the blockade LOL
Get out your check book, or mortgage your house cause the Lost art gallery
is opened for business, complete with pricing.

I liked this one, too - in fact it is now my current wallpaper on my

one just below Rousseau's picture. What is that - flies on an
orange? I don't remember that from "Lost". ;-)

I had the exact same problem. They definitely look like flies, not
bees or spiders, both of which can be easily placed in the story. Is
it a _Lord of the Flies_ reference? Or, this is really morbid, but
were there flies around Danielle's shallow grave?
Someone on another forum suggested the painting is a Memento Mori:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memento_mori
"Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as 'Remember you must
die' (and the origin of the English word memento, which appeared as
memento mori, 'remembrance of death'). It names a genre of artistic
creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the
same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality and the
punishment they will receive if they transgress the rules of their
religion."

Maybe whoever did this painting got a clue from the showrunners, too.
Apparently, the person who made Poster 16 got some hints, because
there are supposedly two clues in it about Season 6 - the burning ankh
being one.
Speaking of which - a reference to Jacob's body burning? Burning
life? Burning for eternity? Or simply a misdirection? ;-)
I haven't been able to see a clear enough picture of this yet, but it
looks to me like there may be script handwriting in the clouds, too.

The last of the posters was done by Tyler Stout.
http://nothingsforever.com/dcpb/final/
The front page of Tyler Stout's web site currently has an animated
skateboarder with a flaming head, in the motif of Hurley's torch in the
aforementioned poster (16)
http://www.tstout.com/
The 'flame' was a first century motif or symbol of renewal or rebirth. It
sybolized a little piece of or an outpouring of the Holy spirit of God.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_and_flame
Another interesting feature of the last poster is the curious airplane in
the top right corner seen close up here:
http://twitpic.com/tr06o/full
Two red dots where the airline logo would be, doesn't appear to be Oceanic
or Ajira.
I thought that might just be artistic license, but if the logo is
really represented by a red disc, it might be a sun symbol, as on the
Japanese flag. Given that we'll have a character named for a Japanese
Zen Buddhist teacher, that's not out of the question.
The ankh is also considered by some to be a symbol of the sun.
"Another theory holds that the ankh was symbolic of the sunrise, with
the loop representing the Sun rising above the horizon, which is
represented by the crossbar. The vertical section below the crossbar
would then be the path of the sun."
http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories/ankh.htm
"The ankh was almost never drawn in silver; as a sun-symbol, the
Egyptians almost invariably crafted important examples of it (for
tombs or other purposes) from the metal they most associated with the
sun, gold. A similar metal such as copper, burnished to a high sheen,
was also sometimes used."

Thanks for posting this. I sure couldn't see that airplane in the
pictures I've seen. This *could* be a reference to the two sections
(tail and mid-section) of Oceanic 815 that had survivors that lasted
for more than a few hours. ;-)
Are there any other close-ups of different parts of the poster?
-/< /\ />-
> Are there any other close-ups of different parts of the poster?
Yes. Reverend Milo has a few here:
http://twitpic.com/photos/ReverendMilo
Zort has posted an assortment from various sources here:
http://www.lostargs.com/2009/12/lost-closeup.html
----------------
A side note:
http://damoncarltonandapolarbear.com has all 16 posters as an Official
Lost site.
Though appearing like the official site but NOT to be confused with THAT
site is a fan site that contains all posters in high definition and with
comments for each poster: http://dcaapb.com/
dcaapb.com is Rev Milo's personal site. He has purchased all the posters
and has photographed each in a hi-res format that could be printed out and
displayed. Very nice unofficial fan site.
I hope he photos and posts the last poster handed out yesterday in LA.
That glossy handout was given away free to those attending the Gallery
1988 gala. The same poster art in silk screen format was sold out this AM
for $70 each (300 total)
Those silk screens won't arrive at the purchasers homes for several days.
So a hires photo of the glossy hand out 16th poster would allow a closer
inspection for season 6 clues.

Well, the first thing I noticed is the small "j" (could be an "i" I
guess) on the letter "O" in "Lost" and the capital "F" on the letter
"T". Hmmm... ;-)

When you look at the much larger version, you can see these are
windows from the crashed airliner. ;-)
-/< /\ />-
Thanks. What a difference the hi-res version makes. There are
certain lines on people and objects that look like the edges of puzzle
pieces, which is appropriate. The "F" and "i" certainly do look
intentional. "If" makes some sense, but since the "F" is upper case,
maybe we're supposed to see "Fix" when we add the x-like mark on Eko's
axe. Unfortunately, there are so many other marks that could also be
interpreted as letters.
Ben and Juliet are facing away from the center toward the edge of the
poster, like bookends I wonder if we need to manipulate the painting.
Fold, flip, reverse or some such technique to see what we are suppose to
see. Or can we even find what we are looking for, before we actually see
season 6?
top left corner, above and slightly behind the black smoke is a structure.
I can't make out what it is. maybe the rock formation with a hole in the
center that Walt told Michael to look for as a landmark?
That would be ironic (and devious) of the producers, since surely no
one who was lucky enough to get the poster wants to mutilate it. :)
It's hard to say whether character placement is an artistic decision
or a clue. Vincent is opposite the ankh. Eko appears to look
directly at Aaron, who looks back down at him. Shannon seems to sadly
view her own dead body.
> Or can we even find what we are looking for, before we actually see

They did say to eliminate things we've already seen, and what was left
would be the clues. But we did see an ankh already, though it wasn't
in flames.

The artist uses stylized geometric shapes, so it's difficult to
determine if that's a structure. It doesn't really look like that
rock with the hole in it. On the right side, behind the torch,
there's another large expanse of gray, but that one has no detail.
Has the person viewing the crash in the lower right corner been
positively identified? He doesn't seem to be wearing Richard's
clothing.

If I had a good color printer, I would be folding and mutilating as we
speak!

The person in the lower right has been ID'd in different forums as Ben,
Richard, MIB etc. IOW, no positive ID. The sideburns and handbag look the
most like Ben to me. I am still opened to speculation, cause I can't be
sure.
I agree that it looks like Ben. He usually wears collared shirts, but
in "Live Together, Die Alone" he wears clothing that is similar to the
outfit in the poster:
http://z.about.com/d/lost/1/0/S/4/-/-/Captured.jpg
That doesn't look more like a lower case "J" to you? I see a tail on
the character. ;-)

That makes sense, but when you go to the website of the artist, which
thin provided above
you can see this is this particular artists technique on many of his
posters. BTW, he works with some pretty good rock bands! ;-)
-/< /\ />-
I do, too, but if you look at a font like Typewriter (
http://www.fontriver.com/i/maps/junkos_typewriter_map.png ), the lower
case "i" extends out horizontally in both directions at the base. The
lower case "j" is more curved. Both of them have an extension on the
left side at the top, which is lacking in the poster, though.
Plus, an "i" seems to fit better with an upper case "F", if this
actually means anything.
:)
I wonder if that had anything to do with the choice to use him. Oh
well, his style works here!

Maybe it's like those back covers that used to be on "Mad"
magazine! ;-)

Probaly not. ;-)

Can't tell. Did you notice that some of the characters are in the
poster twice? Jack, Sayid, Eko, Jin, Sawyer, Michael and Walt.
Maybe Bobbo's theory is right after all! JUST KIDDING!! ;-)
BTW, who is the guy in the lower left-hand portion who is looking at
Jack in his suit?
-/< /\ />-
> Did you notice that some of the characters are in the

Oh, and Shannon also. One alive and one dead. One dark and one
light! =:-O
Have you read spoilers? Not revealing anything, but Bob's gonna have
a field day after the first few episodes air. Just sayin'.
No, but in one of the interviews (I guess this isn't a spolier) with
the showrunners they said:
QUOTE ON
Cuse said that "Lost" will unveil a "narrative technique" that is
"different" this season. He didn't elaborate on what the new
technique would be, but he compared the deployment of this Season 6
element to the show's use of time travel in Season 5: "Last year, we
committed to this concept of time travel with a certain expectation
that some people really might not respond to it. I think the most
pleasant surprise was how much people embraced it, because it was
difficult and it was much more overtly science fiction, and yet
people
really seemed to like the season," Cuse said. "But we have the same
anxiety about what we’re doing this season. We kind of feel like the
fundamental tenet that we’ve tried to follow as storytellers is 'Be
bold.' But in being bold sometimes you fall on your face. So, we
committed to a narrative approach this season which we feel is bold
and it’s different than what we’ve done before. And if it works,
it’ll
be exciting, but it might not be everybody’s cup of tea either."
QUOTE OFF
And that sounds like alternate realities to me, so I woundn't be
suprised to see two of a lot of the characters being shown in each
"Separate Reality"! ;-)

I wasn't aware of the connection between LOST and "The Linder Gallery". I
can definitely see the similarities to my piece and I'm flattered that you
made a connection between the two, although I hadn't consciously intended
to reference "The Linder Gallery". My "Memento Mori" was intended to be a
very direct reference to David Bailly's "Self-Portrait with Vanitas
Symbols", though I realized only art history geeks like myself would
notice. Anyhow, I'm glad you liked it!

In this vanitas still-life, the border between the two genres of the
still-life and the portrait are blurred.
...Thus, by changing the time references of past fiction and present
reality, the painting suggests that the young artist is anticipating his
future age, which - though part of the present in 1651 - appears to belong
to the past, as conveyed through the medium of the portrait. The young
man, who appears to be so real within the first-degree reality of the
painting, really represents a state of the past.
Unlike the repetitive, dull and often schematic topics of Dutch vanitas
still-lifes, the misleading time scale in Bailly's painting adds a new
dimension to the whole subject.
I was even more impressed with this painting:

after I read about this one:

Especially since it's Esau holding a portrait of Locke, and in the
original it's the young artist holding a portrait of his older self.
=:-O
Wow. Seeing the inspiration really puts the MIB painting in context.
The artist did a great job of replacing the original objects with ones
from the show.
You caught the significance of that too? That would imply that the artist
of the Lost Underground Art Show thinks that Locke is MIB, and that Locke
is OLDER than MIB. Of course this is all non canonical speculation of the
musings of an artist that may have had no more insights into the Lost saga
then we do. But still, very interesting, and a lot of fun to compare side
by side, the two works of art.
(BTW, in the Bailly painting, did you notice behind the glass vase there
is a ghostly apperition of a woman?)

No, I didn't. But that would be a good place for a mural of Claire,
don't you think? Or maybe Juliet? ;-)

Lost ARG Art Show At Gallery 1988
Over the past sixteen weeks, Lost fans have been in the grip of an
art-related ARG that saw limited-edition posters inspired by the show
released once a week, often selling out in a matter of minutes. Our own
intrepid reporter, Dana Vinson, herself a Lost junkie, took us to Gallery
1988 for an event that showcased all of that art in one place.
She met Jensen Karp, the owner of the gallery, and mastermind of the whole
ARG, talked with several of the artists, and even got some face time with
Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, Executive Producers of Lost, to find out
what they thought of the whole thing.

I enjoyed most of the art, but is this really an ARG? Where's the
alternate reality, and where's the game?

No, it wasn't really an ARG. I think most of the fans had hoped for one,
and the viral marketing of the posters did have an element of an ARG, in
that URL clues were given out prior to the sale of each print. But it was
more of a fan appreciation fare than anything else. The first Lost ARG,
now THAT was an ARG!.
