access to alt.* news

I realize that this question is no specific to this NG;
however, it directly affects participation in this group.

Several of the larger carriers of newsgroups
have recently announced that they will no longer carry any newsgroups,
or that they will henceforth only carry certain newsgroups, etc.
Verizon just announced that as of 2008/06/24, they will only carry
"the big 8", which apparently doesn't include alt.*.

Anyone have any recommendations on other servers that offer this NG,
and on what financial and/or technical basis?

I'm accessing this group (alt.sys.pdp11) on news.motzarella.org
which is free, has 40 day retention for alt.*
don't know what the posting limit is, but I've never hit it

I have been using teranews, though there service has become very slow
over the past six months.

I switched to Giganews for that very reason.

BTW, did you ever get that System/3 stuff you had scanned up online? I could
really use that now...

I use http://www.news.individual.net/, 10 EUR per year. Doesn't carry
binary groups.

Why is http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sys.pdp10 not good enough?
I'm lucky enough that charter.net still caries alt.sys.pdp10, but if it
didn't I'd probably just use Google instead of trying to locate another news
server.
