Description: The trusty old PDP 10.

Anybody booted an OS from scratch on still-running PDP-10?
Recently the topic came up of bootstrapping Common Lisp from a bare machine, to avoid any dependency on C or other high-level language during the bootstrap process, to avoid the claim that C is more important than Lisp because Lisp requires C but nothing requires Lisp. It would be nice to demonstrate that Common Lisp can be... more »

sticky bit
Does TOPS-10 have a feature, similar to the unix 'sticky bit' where static data could be shared among different executions of the same program? It might be that, for the feature I am considering, that it is supposed to share read only code segments, but that with the right options one can also share data.... more »

Typo on Alices PDP-10
/cause you want to know if I'm braindamaged enough trade my PDP-10 for partial credit on a system that doesn't even handle filename completion after being a litterbug/ Man, this thing has been all over the Internet for years and no one has corrected "enough trade" to be "enough to trade".

access to alt.* news
I realize that this question is no specific to this NG; however, it directly affects participation in this group. Several of the larger carriers of newsgroups have recently announced that they will no longer carry any newsgroups, or that they will henceforth only carry certain newsgroups, etc. Verizon just announced that as of 2008/06/24, they will only carry... more »
