sufficiency, most of that oil comes from Canada and Mexico.

True, but politically stable countries within easy pipeline reach of
the US consumer represent more reliable sources, but do not influence
the world price of the commodity. Canada imports a significant
amount of oil from Africa and the middle east to serve the highest
population in the east coast, Quebec and Ontario because the oil from
the west flows south. Nothing beats infrastructure and where the
biggest market exists.

We import 2,193M barrels of oil a day from Canada. 998M barrels a day
from Mexico.

We produce something like 10M barrels a day (it was 9.03 in 2009, I
assume its
gone up a smidge).

So, yeah, we are importing more Canada and Mexico than we are
producing.

That's 9 million total imports, Dummy, while Canada only
sends us 1,943,000 barrels/day.

We also get 5,954,000 barrels/day from OPEC.
