Now that that era is over life is becoming problematic for
politicians.
Responsible politicians can discuss the issues but that may help their
happy talk opponents, infinite oil, no climate change, infinite
growth, get rich quick with the Gipper, etc., with the weak minded GOP
base. Or they can not discuss the issues which will eventually reduce
America into something like a large Haiti but without the charm.
Now we know the price of oil will soon soar. We know that it may be
20 years before free speech can be restored for a growing middle
class.
In the meantime, wouldn't it be better to drop speed limits to 42 mph
than to ride the bus?
The bus takes 3X more time than the clown vehicle.

It would be better, of course, but you obviously haven't
considered the impact.
1) If people actually cut back on consumption, the oil
companies wouldn't be making as much.
2) They'd up their prices so they'd have the same income
(which by now they're dependent on) so as to not "lose" anything.
3) People would think "Well, if it doesn't save me any money
to consume less, why should I bother?".

do so whenever I have an opinion I think is worth sharing.
