years in prison for the fatal beating of his wife.Michael Lee Everage,

What a terrible thing thi s that this homosexual has brought upon the
honor of our Armed Forces. I have never heard of a case in which a
Navy Lt. beat his wife to death because she was a threat to his
career. Considering the facts it seems that it could only happen to a
homosexual and further considering that the DADT law is not likely to
be repealed it will remain an ever present danger in the Naval
Service. Homosexuals, who, by the way are not needed in the military
should show their patriotism by avoiding military service and thus
saving many head and heart aches in the Armed Forces. Do your country
a favor boys and girls such as you be, stop harassing and haranguing
the military, their job is tough enough as it is with out you going
out of your way to make life tougher for them.

Has it occurred to you that the reason he killed her might have
something to do with the fact that being outed as a homosexual
could have ruined his career? Why should "Don't ask don't tell"
(the gutless compromise of Hypocrites who will send gays to war but not
acknowledge them), only apply to the homosexuals.
No one serving their country should be persecuted because of their

That you have not heard of one does not mean they exist. For
example, if a solider has a top secret security clearance, the
spouse will quite likely have to have a clearance too, although not
necessarily top secret. The failure for the spouse to get a
clearance can be grounds for denying the soldiers clearance, which
could be a threat to the soldier's career. Now assuming that all
goes well and the spouse has a clearance, if said spouse does
something to jeopardize that clearance, said soldier might be
inclined to remove the spouse before the problem becomes noticeable
by the brass. And it really doesn't matter that the spouse has
different plumbing than the soldier.

What a load of crap!
First the "homosexual" in question is in a heterosexual marriage.
Bisexual rather then homosexual. A minor point but an error reflecting
the error of the post in general.
Second the secret that led to the murder was a secret ONLY because of
the ban against homosexuality. If his sexuality was not an issue then
his career would not have been an issue. The "danger" of disclosure was
present only because it was unnecessarily created.
Doubtless many heterosexual members of the navy have also brought
dishonour onto the navy through a variety of crimes and misdemeanours.
In those cases it reflects on the person and not their heterosexuality.
So it should be for homosexuals.
Far from establishing the case that the ban on homosexuals is justified
the post actually establishes a good case against such a ban.

I was Air Force assigned to NATO in the cold war and there
homosexuality was not a problem for any body's forces (except ours).
It wasn't a problem. What the soldiers did on their downtime was
their business but when on-duty, it was all professional. We could
learn a lot from this (if we could get rid of the bigots).

Too bad you don't read the Greek. In Matthew, the word incorrectly
translated as servant in your KJV is "pais". It has a specific meaning in
Greek. A "pais" (and you can check the relevant Greek and Roman literature
on this if you had even half a brain) is the aide to Roman and Greek
officers who also serves as a sexual outlet during military campaigns and
foreign outpostings.
The Greek word "doulos" is used for slave, bondperson or servant and appears
120 times in scripture. The Centurion uses THAT word when he refers to his
other servants. But for his lover, for whom he sought a cure, he uses the
word "pais", not just once but in every verse he refers to this young man.
At all other times the author of the story has both the Centurion and
Joshua using "doulos" for other servants.
But not able to read the original languages nor literature of the times, you

would know why biblical scholars do not believe the NT was written in any
other language except for Greek. Matthew has none of the signs of having
been translated from another language. However we can tell that Jerome's

It depends. The policy is not universal for spouses, or at least
wasn't when I was in. It was typically left up to the base
commander. The spouse is always investigated, usually by both the NIS
and the FBI, and can be "cleared", but the issuance of an actual
clearance depends on the policy of the BC. You are right that a
failure to be cleared can result in the denial/loss of the soldier/
sailor's clearance, and threaten the soldier/sailor's career.

WASHINGTON -- At least 56,000 people become infected with the AIDS
virus every year in the United States -- 40 percent more than previous
estimates, according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
The CDC stressed that actual infection rates have not risen but said
better methods of measuring new diagnosed infections and then
extrapolating this to the general population led to the fresh
estimates.
"CDC's first estimates from this system reveal that the HIV epidemic
is -- and has been -- worse than previously known. Results indicate
that approximately 56,300 new HIV infections occurred in the United
States in 2006," the CDC said in a statement.
"This figure is roughly 40 percent higher than CDC's former estimate
of 40,000 infections per year, which was based on limited data and
less precise methods."
Globally, 33 million people are infected with the human
immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS and 2 million die of it each
year.
The CDC estimates roughly 1 million Americans are infected with the
virus. Dr. Kevin Fenton, who heads CDC's AIDS branch, said 15,000 to
18,000 Americans die every year of AIDS.
"The data really confirm that there is a severe impact of this
epidemic among gay and bisexual men in the United States ... as well
as black men and women," Fenton said in a telephone interview.
More than 28,000 of the new infections are among men who have sex with
men, the new estimates show. Close to 17,000 are among heterosexuals
-- and 15,000 of these are women.
"These data are confirming what we had known before," Fenton said. "It
also mirrors what we see about sexually transmitted diseases and
changes in risk behavior among men who have sex with men."
RISKY SEX
Many recent studies have shown gay and bisexual men are having risky,
unprotected sex more often than before, perhaps emboldened by the
knowledge that the disease can be treated.
But AIDS remains incurable and is fatal if not treated. There is no
vaccine and the drugs stop working if people do not take them
precisely as directed.
The numbers, published in the Journal of the American Medical
Association, also confirm that black Americans are seven times more
likely to be infected than whites.
"The reality is that it is a wake-up call for all of us," Fenton said.
"There are things that you and I can do to stop the disease --
encourage others to use condoms consistently and correctly, abstain
from sex."
AIDS spreads rampantly in prisons, he added.
Communities need to provide better education and testing services,
Fenton said.
Fears of being stigmatized have stopped people from being tested -- 25
percent of those infected do not know it and can pass along the virus.
But there was some comfort in the numbers.
"It is important to note that the new estimate does not represent an
actual increase in the annual number of new HIV infections," CDC said.
"In fact, CDC's analysis suggests that the epidemic has been roughly
stable since the late 1990s, though the number of new HIV infections
remains unacceptably high," it said.
"The analysis shows that new infections peaked in the mid-1980s at
approximately 130,000 infections per year and reached a low of about
50,000 in the early 1990s."
Cocktails of HIV drugs can keep patients alive and healthy but not
everyone gets them, Fenton said.
Too many Americans are diagnosed late, after the virus has already
damaged the immune system beyond repair, he said.

WASHINGTON - AIDS remains largely a disease of gay and bisexual men in
the United States but also disproportionately infects black women,
according to an analysis published on Thursday.
Last month, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
reported that more than 56,000 people in the United States become
newly infected with the human immunodeficiency virus each year, far
more than previous estimates of about 40,000.
Now the CDC has further analyzed those numbers to find the fatal and
incurable virus largely infects men who have sex with men, or MSM -- a
group that includes gays, bisexuals and men who may have the
occasional sexual encounter with other men.
"The male-to-male sexual contact transmission category represented 72
percent of new infections among males, including 81 percent of new
infections among whites, 63 percent among blacks, and 72 percent among
Hispanics," the report said.
Of the new infections in 2006, more than half were among gay and
bisexual men, the CDC found. Of these, 46 percent of new infections
were among whites, 35 percent among blacks and 19 percent in
Hispanics.
But among the overall U.S. population, more blacks are affected -- 46
percent of new infections were among blacks.
The CDC said it needed to redouble prevention efforts, especially in
the black community.
"The alarming number of new infections among young black MSM
underscores the need to ensure that each new generation has the
knowledge and skills to prevent HIV infection beginning early in their
lives," the report reads.
Girls and women made up 27 percent of new infections, with high-risk
sexual contact with men causing 80 percent of new infections.
"Among females, 61 percent of infections were in blacks, 23 percent
were in whites, and 16 percent were in Hispanics," the CDC report
reads.
There is no cure for the AIDS virus, which is transmitted in bodily
fluids such as blood, semen and breast milk. Around the world, sexual
contact is by far the most common mode of transmission although people
who use contaminated needles can be infected, and blood transfusions
also can cause infection.
"African-Americans make up 12 percent of the total U.S. population,
yet represented 45 percent of new HIV infections in the United States
in 2006," the CDC wrote.
Globally, 33 million people are infected with HIV and 25 million have
died of it. There is no vaccine or cure although drug cocktails can
help control the infection.

WASHINGTON - A new estimate of how many Americans have the AIDS virus
puts the number at about 1.1 million, the U.S. Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention said on Thursday.
The CDC numbers, based on 2006 data, show the population living with
HIV is growing as people become newly infected and as more patients
survive thanks to HIV drugs.
The report also suggests that past estimates that more than 1 million
Americans were living with HIV overstated the actual total number of
people with HIV infections at the time.
The agency used different methods than it has in the past to calculate
the number. Its most recent nationwide estimate of 1 million had been
given for 2003, and using the new methods the CDC figured that 994,000
were living with HIV that year.
"These data really show the continued impact that the epidemic is
having on Americans, and they really reinforce the severe toll that is
experienced in multiple communities," the CDC's Richard Wolitski said
in a telephone interview.
The CDC report reinforced previous findings that the epidemic
disproportionately affects blacks of both sexes as well as gay and
bisexual men.
As the number of people living with HIV grows, so does the cost of
providing medical services to this population and the burden on the
U.S. health care system, Wolitski said.
The CDC estimated that about one in five -- 232,700 of the 1.1 million
people infected with the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS
-- did not know they were infected. The total U.S. population is 300
million.
"We're not going to be able to treat our way out of this epidemic. We
need to have strong prevention programs so we can prevent these
infections from occurring in the first place," said Wolitski, acting
chief of the CDC's HIV/AIDS prevention division.
Men made up three quarters of people with HIV infections.
NEW ESTIMATES
The CDC previously reported that more people are becoming infected
each year than previously estimated, with 56,300 new HIV infections in
the United States in 2006. Previous estimates put the number of new
infections at about 40,000 a year.
Of all the people infected with HIV, 48 percent were men who have sex
with men, the CDC said. While male-to-male sexual contact was the
leading cause of HIV infections, heterosexual sex -- mostly women
having sex with men who are injection drug users -- accounted for 28
percent of HIV-infected people.
Injection drug use, which spreads the blood-borne virus via
contaminated needles, contributed 19 percent of the HIV cases.
Blacks make up 12 percent of the overall population but accounted for
46 percent of those infected with HIV (510,100 people). About 35
percent of those with HIV were white and 18 percent were Hispanic,
according to the CDC.
Black women were nearly 18 times more likely than white women to be
infected with HIV, while black men were six times more likely than
white men, the CDC said. Hispanics were 2.6 times more likely than
whites to be infected.
In 2006, about 14,000 Americans died of AIDS. At the end of 2006, the
disease had killed nearly 546,000 Americans since being first
recognized in the early 1980s.
To make the new estimates, the CDC used information on new HIV
diagnoses taken from 40 states with the best data and AIDS diagnoses

New CDC Numbers: 1.1 Million in U.S. Had AIDS Virus in 2006, Up 11%

Oct. 2, 2008 -- The CDC says 1.1 million Americans were living with
HIV in 2006, up 11% from 2003.
The new estimates are relatively good news. Thanks to better
treatment, people with HIV are living longer than ever before.
More people with HIV means more people who can spread the AIDS virus,
yet new infection rates have been stable at about 56,000 new
infections a year. This suggests expanded HIV testing and prevention
efforts are having an effect.
Nevertheless, the U.S. AIDS epidemic burns on. And it's a raging
wildfire among African-Americans:
African-Americans make up 12% of the U.S. population and 46% of those
with HIV.
18 times more African-American women than white women have HIV.
Six times more African-American men than white men have HIV.
The disparity isn't limited to African-Americans:
Hispanic-Americans make up 15% of the U.S. population yet account for
18% of those with HIV.
Four times more Hispanic women than white women have HIV.
Two times more Hispanic men than white men have HIV.
The disparity also is not limited to gender. Three-fourths of
Americans living with HIV are men.
There's also a big difference in how people became infected with HIV:
48% of Americans living with HIV are men who have sex with men.
28% of Americans living with HIV are heterosexual.
72% of American women with HIV and 13% of American men with HIV were
infected via heterosexual intercourse.
19% of Americans living with HIV were infected via injection drug use.
The percentage of people who don't know they're infected with HIV is
decreasing. That's good news, because such people are far more likely
to spread their infection than are those who know their HIV status.
However, more than one in five people living with HIV -- 232,700
Americans -- have no idea they're carrying the AIDS virus.
That accounts for another sad statistic: 38% of Americans learn they
have HIV only within a year of developing AIDS. Treatment is most
effective when HIV is diagnosed soon after infection.
The new CDC estimates appear in the Oct. 3 issue of the CDC's
Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
