Written in classic country style, but that's as far as it goes.
Dockery-Conley DEFINITELY needs to be back by a country band, not a
keyboard.
Hello, Tom... thanks for having a listen and commenting, but not sure
where the keyboard reference comes from, as there's no keys on the
track! Just guitar, bass, drums and a... flute. Could it be the flute
that sounds like a keyboard to you?
Listen to Phantom 309 by Red Sovine, feller stops at a "Truck Stop",
good ol' song, also, Tom Waits does a good version of it.
Oh yeah, I remember Red Sovine well... and living off a main highway
in the rural deep south
(pictured here): http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kelly_H_Dockery.jpg
as a child, I'd lie awake with my cousins late in the night, listening
to the big trucks crossing back and forth to and from Alabama, telling
ghost tales of Phantom Dutchman truckdrivers and their spectral
muses...

Here's the song "Truck Stop Woman" always reminds me of. I won't even
say the name -- as when I was younger this was not the music anyone
admitted listening to (though it sold like crazy) -- just give a link:

Heh... but I'll keep it hush-hush for now, & go have a look-listen...
it isn't Kenny Rogers, is it? Some of my friends in Europe compare me
to him, sometimes!

Hi Will,
I have some time now so I will post the Mp3 together with some new
pictures to my website this evening.
Some people in my house tonight listened to your song and they
thought
it was pretty amazing.
I think it is important we shouldn't rush things too much. I will
write another Zorro poem which I will write especially for music,
so it will flow more nicely with the wonderful arrangements.
So our project could take a bit longer to finish but it's the quality
of
the result that matters, right?
I think it would be great if you could record two other versions of
the
existing Zorro poem: one in a kind of 'Kenny Rogers' voice over (the
english' and one in which you will sing the dutch version - I know
that's really hard but I think the result will be worth it.
I am also thinking: maybe some female backing vocals with the Kenny
Rogers part? A bit more gospelish.....
As to the video, I think, if you don't mind of course, I will write a
short screenplay for it. It will be a like a minimovie.
Let me know what you think. Feedback is greatly appreciated.

I agree that the result would be have been worth it, especially if you
stumbled around drunkenly in your clogs and your blindfold during the
tuneless performances as you usually do.
But how would one tell that you were singing in Dutch instead of
Cracker or whatever your native tongue is?

First, PJR: "Try (a) not posting about me and (b) holding your breath,
and see
which attempt you have to give up first."
M.H. Benders has been my friend for years, and is to this day. We stay
in touch on Facebook, since he abandoned Usenet years ago.
Here's his public Facebook page if you'd like a look at his current

And was... here you are, after all -("Try (a) not posting about me and
(b) holding your breath, and see which attempt you have to give up
first.")- still writing about the "Autograph of Zorro" project almost
a decade later:

Here's the website with the entire story of the Shadowville-

"In my opinion Will Dockery is easily one of the most authentic
American poets around. A real coffeehouse poet who is not scared of
mingling some real American elements such as country music into his
poetry. Whileas you just try to appear as European as possible with
all your sucking up to 80 year old European surrealists." -M.H.Benders

Yes, I write every day, and usually average several poems and/or poems
a week, Gary... how about you? Do you write?

Ggamble's most memorable poem "Pete The Dog", about his small weener
dog who went away. Sort of like his muse.
