I have a picture & sound no problem, I'm broadband, when is the
oration, tomorrow? My idiot alumni org never told me about this,
thanks Patruus,
sorry I just had to press the button on the real player, but I'll
need more time to ffiddle & find it, thanks for posting this,
I made three failed attempts today to capture the audio from it, before
electing to follow W.C.Fields' advice: "If at first you don’t succeed, try,
try again. Then quit. There’s no point in being a damn fool about it."
Also, there's no sign of this year's Princeton salutatory having leaked out,
but you can hear last year's here:

Hi. I just watched and listened to the Latin address with no trouble
here.
It is excellent. A 20-year-old Cicero Classics major. I'm sure the
modernists like Ed Casey will love it, so I'll do all I can to provide
it.
I just took the .rm address and fed it into Real Alternative. And bingo,
down it came.
I do have a good broadband line; so after a few minutes I could
fast-forward to 1:09.
The address lasts for about 10 minutes; and with subtitles in English. I
guess I could record it locally and put it on some website.
Let me know if anybody really wants that.
Ed
One of the things which have been inhibiting me from switching to broadband
is that, according to the small print, I would lose my "Light User" discount
which I get for making very few voice calls (true to the spirit of
cave-dwelling!), my lastest quarterly bill being GBP 19.92. The last time I
looked into BT's package pricing I found it so fiendishly complex and
confusing that I was unable to determine what my best option would be if I
did switch to broadband.

I am not myself too desperate for it at the moment, thanks. Too many other
cakes in the oven!

I can definitely sympathise with that view of BT and their bills. They
seem to change mine every new quarter; keep switching me from one Option
to the next. And then they add several £s sterling because I refuse to
sign up for a direct debit payment which would allow them to draw
whatever they will from my bank account.
Yes, maybe you're wiser there. I have Orange broadband; £17.99 per
month.
Ed
I've never had any problem with their Direct Debit. They always take the
exact billed amount, not some inflated estimated average as with gas and
electricity.
> Yes, maybe you're wiser there. I have Orange broadband; £17.99 per month.
I've only just noticed Which? have a report on Broadband this month. (Why
can't they have an RSS feed?) Only 21% of Orange broadband customers were
"very satisfied". PlusNet (my own ISP) scored 30%. Tops was Global with 77%
and Waitrose with 76%.
Hellfire and brimstone!! - I shop at Waitrose and I never knew they were an
ISP !
Patruus
Orange have been receiving stick for months; and not least on BBC
Watchdog. And deserved it from what I've experienced and heard.
But they seem recently to have got their act together, and things have
been fine for several weeks. So I'm sticking with them, since they've
spent good money and time upgrading their network equipment to put an
end to all the bad press.
Ed
Ed, could you post it. I've been rather hapless at trying to fast
foward and would love to see it & share it with the other alumni. I
think this is so great & I have to find out from other people: to whom
I'm very grateful

Hi. The extract is a large video file; well over 20MB. If I put it on a
website (and I'm not too sure about the legal position there) then it
would take a couple of hours to download with a 56Kbps dial-up.
No, I think broadband is the only fair option here. And it isn't too
difficult with that.
This is the streaming address;
rtsp://128.103.203.14:554/pluto/Commencement2007AMArchive.rm?cloakport=8080,554,7070
--stop--
pnm://128.103.203.14:7070/pluto/Commencement2007AMArchive.rm?cloakport=8080,554,7070
Copy that, paste it into a player, wait a minute or so, move the slider
to 1:09:45 (it lasts 2:46:21 in all) and then watch.
I don't have RealPlayer. I use Real Alternative. It's freeware and you
can get it here;

Ed
I've got something called "ZD Soft Video Recorder" that does that, albeit
imperfectly.
Hey Ed, do you remember the old "Streambox" trick I used to use for
capturing Nuntii Latini streams? -
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.language.latin/msg/1f077fe9b9864f04
I'm right now trying it out on the Harvard stream and, incredibile narratu,
it seems to be working. I've got the first half hour saved so far. The
video's not smooth (only one new frame every ten seconds), but the audio's fine.
Patruus
Huzzah! Success on the fourth attempt!

Now, remind me once more of that W.C.Fields epigram.

Tibi gratias ago! I also posted it at the Other Place, with suitable
thanks expressed to Patruus. I am enjoying it!
Great!
