In those days the freeware newsgroups, and especially the wisdom and
kindess of gentlemen like BeAr and Craig offered a sufficient
distraction and source of information and leadership.
People assign far too much importance to all of the wrong things. Often
times, they bottle up their frustration and take it out on some forum
somewhere. Others take it out on their families or coworkers. It
becomes a habit, it diminishes one's character, and one doesn't have to
engage in it to see it. It solves nothing and only furthers the erosion
of civility.
I stuck out Dilbert-world, 50 hours a week living like veal. Now, I work
from home part of the day--I've got a three year old on my lap.
It took a very short time to see the old patterns of bottled up
frustration and abusive banter that you encounter on almost all public,
and particularly usenet, forums. It's like a funk you get used to until
you leave, but it's instantly recognizable when you come back. It's
like a Star Trek convention. William Shatner can advise Trekkies to get
a life, but at any Trek convention there's always going to be some
group angrily jabbering at each other in Klingon.
There are not bad people on this forum. There are, to be sure, some
very good people here. But the interpersonal hostility that flies
around and, at present, seems to be flooding the only two discussions
I've started in a year, is not productive.
It's clear that many of the most inspiring contributors have moved on
and that these are not the forums they once were. In the meantime,
while I was engaged in the runway incursion flamewars, I lost a very
close relative and I am preparing to bury her on Sunday. I should have
spent all this usenet time with her instead of indulging people's
opinions of what kind of PWHer I might be. When I said none of this
matters, I meant it.
I am sorry my contribution caused the newsgroups to veer off topic, and
I am party to the blame. I hope the forum returns to what it used to be
but it is clear that my presence does not help so I am unsubscribing
from these forums immediately and permanently. I accept full
responsibility for the distraction and chaos.
It's a beautiful day out, and I intend to go be in it. I wish every one
of you safety, success, health, and the best of luck.
(There's no door, and so you don't have to worry about my ass.)

The post to a.c.f was a hour later than Gattman's post from Google to the

You and I have gone round the bout before when I was trying to alert

You were asked if there was controversy about the product you are
promoting. Your response to that query was no. Do you really think
all the folks here don't know how to read other newsgroups? A quick
glance at that group will give any reasonable person a different
impression than the one you are trying to convey. It appears, to me,
that you think you own the ACF newsgroup and that you are using it to
promote a product that claims to be free. There is much controversy
about this, even to the point of saying this product is illegal on
an international scale. It appears that more than a few readers of
that newsgroup object to you using it to promote a product that they
feel is *not* free... or even legal in the sense of violating
international copyright laws.
Is this debatable, subject to controversy, open to question or
dispute? My impression is yes, it is. You seem to want to brush this
little fact aside. That calls into question your integrity and the
value of the product you are trying to promote and it doesn't impel
me to support your cause or send "cash only" for a "free" product.
This is Usenet. If debate is a problem for you, then perhaps you
should only promote your product on a website or private moderated
web forum where all controversy can be filtered from public view.
Thank you for bringing this issue to my attention.
And have a nice day. :)

Help improve the ACF experience. Please feed the trolls.
New to the group? Check out http://www.pricelessware.org/
and try to ignore the threads that are freeware related.
All the posts I've seen from Ron and Bjorn and about a half dozen or more
other handles in the "From:" header (I haven't kept close count) are
actually from the same person.
So they are merely matched - they are the same person.
Anyone knowing the rudiments of Usenet operation and taking a moment of
observation can see you are holding a conversation with yourself.
I see that no one has yet told you that the "X-Authenticated-User:" header
that x-privat.org adds to each post uniquely IDs each of its users,
irrespective of what those users put in the "From:" header.
So all the posts you've been making to the various newsgroups under
multiple handles (which appears to be quite a few) really exposes your
emotional issues for all the world to see. Opposite your intent, no doubt.
You probably aren't stupid, but you do seem to have very poor control of
your emotions - at least with respect to online actions. Your intellect
isn't making a fool of you so much as your loose emotional control. Perhaps
if you direct your efforts into something constructive (rather than
destructive) while you learn better self-control (and well-earned humilty,)
you'll become a better person for the effort.
Intended to write:
So they aren't merely matched - they are the same person.
I noticed that too, but I'm afraid Ron May has been like that as far
back as I can remember. He has an unfortunate tendency to get very fired
up about silly little things and lets off steam on this newsgroup, using
endless socks/forgeries but without realising how destructive he is.
Of course some of it is related to his role in the Pricelessware Racket
and his desperate attempts to divert attention away from the alleged
financial scandals.
-Gordon
?????
Wouldn't surprise me, May is capable of anything.
Problem is over, I have contacted the x-[rivat group and they have
banned "Ron May" from any further use of hteir services.
May tries valiantly to give the impression that there was no
controversy as to the commercial and legal aspect of the product he is
promoting in alt.comp.freeware and now he is "spamming" another Usenet
newsgroup that isn't about "freeware" but is about aviation.
The only point in using sock puppets is to drown out the opposing
viewpoint by presenting a volume of fake posters to mislead others,
usually the noobs. The intent is not in presenting a valid argument.
Using sock puppets is misdirection. The malcontent is attempting to add
volume (in numbers of identities) rather than logic in their content to
convince other visitors to that group. Hiding behind sock puppets
(and often hiding behind remailers) is not done for beneficial reasons.
They replace eloquence and logic with a volume of fake identities.
So goes the Pricelessware goon squad, scammers to the end.

I'm not going to waste any more time trying to participate in this

There's a lot more. :)
Everything you lot post about me is complete crap.
You're just a bunch of scum pond life and asshole cowardly trolls.
I never have charged more than $30 for a Pricelesware CD. Due to the
recession I have reduced that to $24.95 and I believe that is a fair
price for 700MB of freeware.

[apologies to the other rap readers for this note; I promise not to
spend too much time on this guy]
Are you aware that "free" does not necessarily imply "free to
redistribute", and that your distribution of this CD therefore almost
certainly constitutes copyright violation (for profit, no less!) in most
Western countries? Certainly some of your software may come with
permission to redistribute, but just to pick one at random, I'm pretty
sure that Google's Picasa 2 does not.

I find that hard to believe because:
1) You allegedly managed that in under two hours after my post.
2) The only time I ever sent a complaint to the x-privat.org abuse address,
there was no acknowledgement of when or if they took action.
3) You failed to state what rationale you provided to x-privat that would
yield such rapid results.
4) You are posting from eternal-september.org, another free Usenet portal
that obscures the actual sender, so your real identity and motives are
unknown.
So you could be the same person and posted the "problem over" as quickly as
possible in order to preempt any abuse reports by others.
Posts like yours from anonymizing Usenet service providers can never be
trusted. Try posting via a reputable commercial service (as little as
$2/month; e.g. newsguy.com) or even Google, which at least includes the
source IP address.
For what it's worth, you're replying to a forgery. Pricelessware is
just that, priceless, aka free. If you want it, free of charge, post
where it's on topic and I'd be happy to send you the disks.

Good catch, Frank!
Lew
Just because you're not charging for it doesn't make it legal. Unless
the software in question explicitly allows such redistribution, it's not
allowed, free or otherwise.
IOW - even if the *original* license precludes redistribution, the
entity granting the license may authorise redistribution if they so

OK, I apologize. I see I didn't answer you directly.
We have explicit permission to redistribute the software contained on
Pricelessware disks. That is, either the license allows for it or, the
author has given it.
If you're so inclined, you can prove this to yourself. The CD index is
available here: <http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/2008/CumulativePL-CD.php>.

Typical Pricelessware dodge, Craig, why not tell them about your
nomination and support of a known women torturer and convicted fraud for
Pricelessware webmaster, John Fitzsimons. Google "fraud" "John
Fitzsimons"
Or explain to them why mysteriously both he and the web server owner "Q"
have disappeared once the scam hit the Usenet streets.
Excellent now produce for all to view the specific written
authorizations and other author permissions and everything will be
okey-dokey.
You can't. The Pricelessware scam is illegal in almost too many ways to
count.
You're a criminal, Craig and an asshole, a real kewl combination of
dirtbag and shithead.

Help improve the ACF experience. Please don't feed the trolls.
New to the group? Check out http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/
and try to ignore the threads that aren't freeware related.
False argument.
You're inventing a new standard for publishing freeware. You did well to
sucker so many people into your troll.
Why don't you ask NoNags, Download.com, SnapFiles, Softpedia and
everyone else why they don't display a certifcate for each application
to prove they are allowed to distribute it? What a goon.
The proof is in the licence for each freeware. Why don't you read it if
you want to know what it says?

reasonable aspect has been considered and expounded dozens of
times, by now.
Since the matter is completely OT in your group, it (IMHO) would

Discussing single program in July did not help:

freeware promoting projects on the Net. Out of reasons only known to
you and the other fact-resistent ones. And you don't hesitate to cite

to discredit people taking part in the Pricelessware election... :-(

You spent days putting together the biggest and most prolific diversion

Why is it that you and the Pricelessware goons distribute freeware for
fees without the specific authors' knowledge and permissions to do so?

Brother, you will go to no ends to hide your shame.
suck the birdies cock
If you or any other posters to a.c.f believe copyright theft is happening,
your only legal recourse is to contact the owners of said copyrights and
alert them to the suspected activity. It is then up to them to take legal
action, if any.
No amount of posting to Usenet groups can ever substitute for legal actions
by the alleged copyright victims.
Then bring it to the attention of legal authorities. No Usenet reader has
any legal power to do anything about those sorts of allegations and I have
no doubt you understand that. You seem to be an intelligent person, but in
my very humble opinion you're letting your emotions dictate your actions.
My humble advice is to contact the copyright holders about what you believe
may be illegal use of their material and let them decide what action, if
any, is to be taken.

Criminal action can be taken and investigation is under way by US and
other government LEAs.

You couldn't be bothered to at least get an impression of the content of
that posting??? Yet, you continue posting nonsense about Pricelessware
and the license checking???
The posting contains at the first ~40 lines the links to all 2009
license checking threads. The next ~100 lines mention special cases
and explain, that - if people would like to do, what you and others
accuse them to do - doing it the PL CD creation way would be plainly
stupid.
From about line 135 to the end, the license checking and decision
for *every* PL2008 program is summarized. So you could have checked
your "favorite suspicious".
But throwing unfounded accusations again and again is easier, so
you just skip over every fact that might get in the way... :-(

Don't let the jaildoor smack your ass on the way out, Scammer.
Speaking of Pricelessware, you have your own alt.comp.pricelessware
Usenet group but you continually post and crosspost OT Pricelessware
information to
alt.comp.freeware,rec.aviation.piloting,rec.aviation.student,
nd alt.paranormal.

Above is the crux of the matter and it is the responsibility of the
Pricelessware goons to adhere.
If the Pricelessware goons took their collective time, resources, off
ACF emails, endless voting, etc and if they applied as little as 10% of
this rather humongous effort to the posting of author's permissions for
public viewing, the goons could debunk this so-called "lie" rather
quickly.
What do we learn from their refusal to focus just a minor portion of
their energies on their obvious responsibilities??
*They don't have the permissions.*
Your childish behavior is disgusting! Even if Pricelessware *was* OT in
acf (which it is not - discussing the best freeware is on-topic in acf),
it would (it *is*) still be *very bad* manner to let r.a.p suffer as a
surrogate. Group r.a.p removed, again.

How exactly does this list allow me to prove it to myself when there is
the possibility that the author gave you explicit permission outside of
the regular license? I don't see any "this is our special license" links
there. Not that you have to provide them to the outside world or
anything (such activities are completely between you and the authors,
after all) but I don't understand why you say this in the first place.
