Certainly brighter than this alleged "Dr" Adams :)

The appendix has been shown to be a reservoir of beneficial flora that
helps to repopulate the gut after intestinal illness.
People that have their tonsils removed have more sinus and throat
infections.

I doubt there is a structure in our bodies that is TRULY not used.
Even in whales, the "vestigial" pelvis in still used to anchor the sex
organs. Evolution, ain't it cool?

Orgasms in women is a fairly obvious thing.
It is a test of health for the male. If a mate has enough spare time
and energy to invest in sex to the point that the woman "cums", then he
is a keeper. The pleasure is the bonding mechanism so she will WANT to
be with that make. Simple enough.

The female orgasm pumps the male's discharge into the womb in much the
same way the male one pumps it out from.

I think he's talking about how a woman's cervix "dips" itself into a
pool of semen in the vagina during waves of orgasm, therefore increasing
the chances of fertilization.

Don't ask me how I know this, but it is true.
There's a video of it out there somewhere.

Up to about 25 years ago I used to get bacterial throat infections
almost at the drop of a hat, several times a year for almost 20
years. My GP looked at the back of my throat once during an attack
and said "How pretty. Such a nice red colour with those lovely white
flecks of pus"! Finally, almost in desperation, my ENT consultant
removed my tonsils. I still get the infections, but very rarely. The
last one was 9 years ago! I've also never had a sinus infection.

And I'm the queen of sinus infections, with my tonsils. And this is the
time of year when I'm most likely gonna get one. The last 2 years I've
had multiple colds and sinus infection between October and January, just
one cycling right after another. The last time I was at the doctor, we
thought I was on the verge of another sinus infection so I have an
antibiotic prescription just in case; my doctor knows I have the proper
respect for them and won't fill the Rx unless I'm certain it's a sinus
infection and not something allergy- or virus-caused.

I actually had tonsillitis 6 times in 18 months when I was in high
school and into my freshman year at college, and I still have my
tonsils. Our family doctor didn't believe in removing them in anything
less than a life-threatening situations.

Turns out they've been my early warning system for an oncoming cold,
which gives me a chance to try to knock it down before it starts, with
massive doses of Vitamin C. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I am in an "at risk" group regarding influenza due to having kidney
failure.

I'm going to be 54 on November 7th, but I've not had flu since I was
16 years old.

But since I've been diagnosed with ADPKD, doctors and pharmacists keep
telling me to have the flu jab.

And I say to them what's the point? When it's flu season people all
around me drop like flies.

All I get is snuffles, or a head cold. Real flu lays you out in bed
for at least two weeks.

I've not had flu like that since I was sixteen years old.

Do they wonder about why? No they don't.

They just shrug, that's all.

Mind a posible source of relief, especially as the throat goes.

Raw hone, a needed but rarely more than tablespoon per two hours.

Course, if you are actually diabetic & not like me, lazy or prone to
water retention, you need to be monitering that glucose.

Something that works for me is a Neti pot.

As soon as I feel the scratchy throat of an
oncoming cold, I douse my sinuses. It doesn't
magically cure the scratchy throat, but the
cold doesn't usually progress beyond that, and
the scratchy throat lasts maybe a day.

I say 'usually' because I have had colds after
dousing, but I suspect the site of infection
may have been further back in the throat.

My operating theory is that flushing doesn't
kill the viruses, but disrupts their infection
cycle long enough for the body to react.

Also, rinsing the sinuses before bed puts me
out like a light.

A well-stocked pharmacy likely has Neti pots
available.

As the website says, avoid if you have an
acute sinus infection.

You've got to be really, ***REALLY*** careful with Neti pots. People
have died from meningial bacterial infections from using Neti pots
that weren't sterilized after each use.

Good point.

I have a family history on my father's side of polycystic kidney
disease. My grandfather and uncle died young with it. Various Kelly
cousins have died young with the disease. Fortunately my father is free
of it and so are his children. I suspect my great great grandfather had
the disease dying young and with with his daughter dying young. His son,
my great grandfather didn't die from it as he died under the wheels of a
tram instead but he passed the gene on to his descendants.

I'm sorry your family have suffered so many losses to this condition.

You say they died young, can you elaborate on that please?

That is so long as its not too upsetting for you to do so.

I do not know if the PKD is the Dominant or Recessive kind.

My Uncle Den was a very sick child and had effectively only one working
kidney. He died at a relatively young age of 56 after a very sickly
life. I only met him twice in my life as he lived interstate in
Tasmania.

My grandfather died at 58. He had been placed on a disability pension
unable to keep working as a journalist and editor. He had heart problems
as well as PKD.

Among cousins at least one great uncle died at 53. His daughter died at
48 and her son and daughter are now both ill from the disease.

A first cousin once removed also is ill from PKD. Her brother is also
ill.

I am lucky. My father seems to have drawn the winning ticket in a
lottery in not having the disease and neither my brother, 2 sisters or
myself have it. Almost as if my grandfather was not my grandfather as
per family type secrets. Any possibility that my grandfather is not
grandfather were removed at a family reunion a few years ago with so
many family resemblances.

My great-grandfather died at only 36 but not from any disease or
illness. He fell out of the driving seat of the horse drawn tram he was
driving and was crushed under the wheels. I don't know if he had the
disease but he certainly passed it on. Adding to that tragedy his wife
died 6 weeks latter giving birth to a child who also died. That was
1908. Tough times.

The accident
http://webcat.wtcc.sa.gov.au/hipres/images/lhimages/218-1.pdf

Both of his parents were dead before he married in 1895. His sister
signing the marriage certificate. She died in 1921. I do not know but I
suspect hers was PKD.

As an aside the double tragedy of my great grandparents resulted in the
Kellys becoming Protestants. Laurence was Catholic and wife Agnes had
converted to Catholicism. The mixed marriage was a case of the eldest
boy being born 3 months after the marriage. The 6 orphaned boys
including my grandfather were brought up by the material grandparents.
They were Protestants. All the boys except the eldest became
Protestants. My grandfather was in fact very anti-Catholic.

Sure, there are many reasons for it to happen, but there is also a
reason it feels good, and that's my point.
The cervical spasms could be accomplished without the pleasure.

This is what happens with a simple "why" question that doesn't make it
clear what the "why" is asking.

But without the pleasure they wouldn't want to do it and there would
be no next generation unless it was through rape - they would avoid
males even during estrus.

If you've ever had an un-spayed cat or dog you know just how much they
want it and the pleasure they get from it.

I can't read their minds. We do tend to anthropomorphize though.
Is the drive pleasurable, or just the drive to reproduce.
