501(c)3

So what exactly is our status with the 501(c)3? I've been to the Wiki and looked it over. It's a bit jumbled, and all around confusing since there's so much information in so many sections. So, I guess my real questions are these:

What do we have to do to get this submitted?

Can we highlight the areas of our potential submission that we feel need further review, and/or are currently lacking?

Have we started allocating funds for the submission fee?

Can we set a realistic submission goal? I feel like this keeps getting pushed back because it's somewhat unfamiliar, but it seems EXTREMELY important. Many non-profits file a 501(c)3 before they actually open.

I am personally willing to do any work possible for this, but I feel like we need more definition as to what still needs to be done, and how those tasks can be accomplished.

Please let me know about all of this. Once we're approved, we get a lot more opportunities, especially in the realm of grants and sponsorships (which is what i'm working on these days). The decision process takes anywhere from 3-6 months in itself, so it would be nice to get that clock spinning.

Let's get this done, and make it as kick-ass as possible.

From what I know, it's definitely not complete. It's been in a half-completed state for a long time.

I'd love to cover this at the board meeting Wednesday. I agree, it is extremely important. It might be something a smaller group, like you and I, need to spearhead independently.

Awesome. Evidently Khevna and Dana plan on taking a stab at all of this on Sunday. I'll be there via Skype. It would just be really nice to get everything formulated and at least written. What do we have in the works to allocate the funds to submit this monstrosity?

Some good progress to report today regarding our 501c3 application!

Today we filled in the narrative section, time matrix, and reviewed a
number of items in the application. In the process of doing this, we
put our heads together and filled in a few of the vague responses we had
to these questions. We also identified all the questions that we will
need to bring to more qualified sources to help answer.

We are currently seeking some sympathetic non-profit lawyers to help us
wrap up these remaining issues, which can be viewed at the top of the

anyone can think of anyone qualified who would be willing to help for a
minimal/negligible amount, it would be awesome. I am willing to put
forth some cash if needed to help us get these issues done.
