I know last meeting we discussed the 501(c)3 being filled out for AHA. We scheduled a time to get together and go over it, but that never really panned out. I'd really like the ability to state that we're an officially declared non-profit organization in some of the emails I'm sending out regarding possible sponsorships.

But yeah, what still needs to be done? What can I do to help? If we're still wanting more people to look it over, how do I go about seeing it?

Hi John,

We are a domestic non-profit in Michigan under a fiscal sponsorship from
the School Factory. Hopefully that is good enough to get the ball
rolling. I agree that we need to finish the 501c3 application in any case.

What needs to be done is to figure out the last remaining sections.
There are a few concerns, which I referenced in an email a while back:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/ahashop_directors/QFLjXkr4qIw
. Having more eyes on the current answers would be great, just to make
sure things look sane.

You can also find the current answers we have here:
http://wiki.allhandsactive.com/501c3_Submission . The IRS forms
themselves are here:
http://www.irs.gov/Charities-&-Non-Profits/Application-for-Recognition-of-Exemption
, specifically the application form here:
http://www.irs.gov/file_source/pub/irs-pdf/f1023.pdf .

If you want to take a stab at the missing sections (or anyone else
reading this...), that would be swell. Some might require us to reach
out to outside sources more familiar with parts: other 501c3
hackerspaces, those who are familiar with the 501c3 application process,
etc..

After that, we will need to commit it to paper and file it. Filing will
cost us a fair amount of money to do -- $850 according to the IRS site.

Aside from raising money, it would be good to get this done and out of
the way. Especially because we might end up going back and forth with
the IRS, which can take months.

Hope this helps!
