Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has had tiddlyspot upload problems stemming
from either software or hardware firewall or other anti-virus/spyware
software?

If you were able to solve the problems, I would love to know where you
started.

It seems that the problem might be stemming from our gateway denying
the XMLhttprequest, but I'm not sure how I would counteract it.
Opening the http port to incoming traffic? If so, where would i need
to direct it?

Is there an exception I could make in the software firewall?
I'm running mcafee (the gamut - firewall, virus, etc.) on one
computer, and windows firewall on the other in the same network,
neither of which can upload to tiddlyspot.

Any suggestions on a good place to start would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Murray

Hi Murray,

There is a parallel thread which is about the down time at tiddlyspot.
Please take a look there.

Actually, it predates the outage (5-6 days ago). It just took until
now to consult the group.
So, any suggestions on where to start?

Cheers,

Murray

So it's not working now either?
Do you get any error message?
If you're using Firebug, make sure you disable network monitoring (via
Options on the Net tab) and the display of XmlHttpRequests (on the
Console tab).

Hi Murray,

I've just realised I never replied to this.

Like FND says, if you are using Firefox, and have the FireBug
extension installed, the first thing to try is disabling FireBug. For
older versions of FireBug you need to actually go into the extensions
dialog and disable it from there.

The second step for Firefox users is to try a new profile:
http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile

A new profile starts with no extensions and all default security
settings, so if a new profile can upload, you know it's a setting or
extension and can fiddle around in your normal profile to find out
what exactly it is.

If you are using a locally saved TiddlyWiki with Internet Explorer,
the first thing to try is finding the TiddlyWiki HTML file in the
normal file explorer, right-click on the file, look for a button to
"unblock" the file, and click it.

The second step for IE users is to try Firefox. Your organisation may
have set some security policies on IE preventing cool stuff like
XMLHttpRequest.

If you are running a local security program like Norton Internet
Security, or a similar product from McAfee or ZoneAlarm or whatever,
try completely disabling that for 30 seconds while you try a save. If
that works, re-enable it, and start looking through the settings for a
way to specify your TiddlyWiki as an exclusion.

If none of the above works, try your site from home or a friend's
computer that is outside of your organisation's security system. If
you can save from there, it's likely the problem is your
organisation's IT security. Probably your best bet is to have a chat
to the network security people -- they might be TiddlyWiki fans
themselves and happy to help out, and at least they can confirm your
disagnosis.

If you can't get anything working, you can always work off a USB stick
while you're at your desk, and take it home to upload each night.

Let me know how this all turns out -- I'll make this into a proper
troubleshooting doc for tiddlyspot's FAQ.

Cheers
