Based on nearly unanimous demand, we are introducing the new private
key behavior on Snipurl.
OLD FUNCTIONALITY:
The legacy functionality from 2001 had keys working in the snipped URL
itself. So if you had a snipping with a nickname of "whatever" and
gave it a private key of "xyz" your snipping would be
http://snipurl.com/whatever-xyz. The idea behind this simple feature
was to allow snippers to snip URLs without the fear of some miscreant
guessing their snip URL, because snipped URLs are fairly random to
guess (if you have http://snipurl.com/xyz, you may curiously try
http://snipurl.com/xzz, and so on). But our user base has outgrown
this simple feature.
NEW FUNCTIONALITY:
Before we go into this, please note that our big thrust is on being
backward-compatible. All the snips you have already shared all these
years in the old format of http://snipurl.com/nickname-xyz will still
work!
But from now on, when you edit your old snips or create new ones, the
snipped url will only be seen as http://snipurl.com/nickname. The
private key will still be "xyz" but it need NOT be included in the
snipped URL with a hyphen.
When people click on "snipurl.com/nickname" they will be asked for a
passcode, and only if they enter "xyz" in that box (the private key
you have set for that snipurl) will they be taken to the destination
URL.
Hope this is not too confusing. If you have any questions, please do
not hesitate to contact us. Feedback welcome as always!
Happy snipping!

That is correct. People who wish to continue the old format of
including the private key in the URL itself can still do that. But the
new automatic copying functionality will only copy
"http://snipurl.com/nickname".

I give up. I'm using Filechute for years. I suddenly have a client
who tells me the URL is asking for a passcode. I investigate and read
the above. Now the big question is where exactly am I supposed to
enter this passcode? I haven't a clue and can't find ANYWHERE to set
this up. Can you please explain with a more detail? Thanks
