Private keys are optional. You use them if you don't want public access to your snipurl. For example, if your snipurl is http://snipurl.com/nickname and you set a private key as "xyz", then when a recipient clicks on a your snipurl, he will be asked to enter a passcode to continue:
Want a Private Key but not that Passcode Box? This passcode box that is shown in the screenshot above is desired by our users who want private snippings. You see the box if you share your snipurl as http://snipurl.com/nickname. If, however, you wish to have a private key only to prevent people from guessing your snipurl nickname, but still want to give your recipients a one-click experience without that intervening passcode box, then you can share the snipurl like this: http://snipurl.com/nickname-xyz (private key is suffixed to the nickname with a hyphen) Clicking on this will automatically take a user to the destination site. Default Private Key You can set private keys for every snipping individually, or you can set a default private key in your Settings. This will add that private key to all your snippings automatically. Please note that you should only add a default private key if you want *all* of your snippings to have a passcode. Have Old Snippings with Private Key, but Do Not Want Them Private Now? If you have unknowingly set it in the past and have therefore made all your snippings require the passcode, you can delete all your old private keys in one sweep:
