Peter - and others who may have3 answered my Q about converting my '59
Berkeley 2-seater: I'm not too familiar with what some of these
options are, but when I googled the AC 50, it seemed to be very
expensive (several thousand $), and after all, my finished car will
weigh only 1000 lb, about 35% the weight of a 914 EV-- so why would I
need a heavy-duty 9 inch motor? Especially since the weakest link on
the Berk is the drive train, esp the Diff. So mild is good. I've seen
several articles referencing motors from used fork lifts-- I guess
hydraulic pump motors. I think they're 8 inches, and make 40k ft-lb,
aruond 20 hp, which is as much as the orig. Berk ic motor. Has anyone
had experience with one of these-- one hobbyist in Canada did a full
conversion for under $1000 using one. What he described was not the
performance I'm looking for, but again, his Metro weighed 3-ish times
what my Berk weighs, and that has to count for something. Anyone got
any thoughts/advice on the fork lift motor?`

The AC50 with the Curtis 1238-7601 controller will run about $4100-4500,
depending on who you buy from. I got mine through a resaler, then picked
the motor up from HPEVS myself, saving a couple bennies in shipping.

What brand of shocks and springs are you guys currently using on Posrche 914's with 800 pounds worth of lead-acid batteries?

Thanks in advance.
