(ping RWA-RSPokerW) WSOP and ESPN sign new seven year pact

ESPN and the World Series of Poker have committed to keep coverage of the
storied tournament series on the air through most of the next decade.
ESPN and WSOP owner Harrah's Entertainment announced Tuesday a new
seven-year deal worth an undisclosed amount. The latest contract between the
two parties was set to expire in 2010.
"The WSOP is proud to call ESPN home for another nine years," said Jeffrey
Pollack, President of Harrah's Interactive Entertainment and the World
Series of Poker. "This long-term agreement ensures that our content will
continue to reach sports fans around the world through a wide variety of
platforms."
The news comes on the same day as the first two of 24 episodes covering the
2009 Main Event are set to debut. Ratings for the initial 2009 episodes -
those covering the $40,000 No Limit Hold'em event, the Champions
Invitational, and the Ante Up For Africa charity event - are down 8% from
the previous year.
The cable sports giant has long been associated with the WSOP. For ten years
from the late 1980s to the late 1990s the network aired one-hour episodes
covering the main event final table. More modern coverage, complete with
hole cards, began in 2002. The next year, ESPN's coverage of the WSOP Main
Event became a mainstay when Tennessee accountant Chris Moneymaker became
the improbable champion.

Maybe if they would air non-Main Event events that people actually
want to watch, the ratings would go up. Here's an idea for the next
Ante Up For Africa event: only allow players that have some idea how
to play the game.

CA. He and his gf put me up at considerable personal expense for

(I watched his gf put it on him, he was sore after we helped his buddy
Chris move. Although I'm sure it will disappoint many of you, we all
had our clothes on.)
Have I really become such a celebrity now that people are afraid to
just send me an e-mail and ask what's up? Isn't that kind of silly?
Isn't kind of silly that this kind of conversation would happen
without anyone asking me my thoughts and perspective? I realize that
I've been very busy - with the whole move from NC to CA to MI, and now
working 12-hour shifts as I try to get my feet back under me, and so
on - but really, it only takes like three seconds to answer a yes or
no question. I'm not THAT busy.
And if people care so much, why is traffic at lowgenius.net not three
times higher? Why aren't more people watching my youtube vids

Chad's not the only RSPWer who helped, either - several current and
former members of the group were kind enough to paypal me a few bucks
here and there, and every dime was vital - I hit Kalamazoo with like
six bucks and three eighths of a tank of gas.

2002? Earlier? Being inside the sausage factory ruined my appetite
years ago. I doubt I've watched 30 hours of wrestling in the last
five years. I've been doing the web design thing, raising my
daughter, working for other people sporadically, building other
websites for myself and for clients, learning new software, playing
tons of World of Warcraft, moving in and out of relationships,
understanding and defining myself...I just don't have the time or
interest to play stupid here anymore, and I haven't for a long time.
I appreciate having RSPW around to sharpen my rhetorical claws on for
several years, and I especially appreciate the friendships I've formed
here over the years, but I've moved on to other things.
Some of these things I would recommend heartily that some of you
attempt: things like 'going outside' and 'communicating with other
human beings face to face.'
I'm glad that there are still people here who care so much about ol'
JH. Many of you I stay in touch with via Facebook, LJ, and so forth,
and that's nice. It makes me happy to have formed lasting friendships
in such a diaphanous medium. It's nice to know you're cared about,
and it's nice to care about others.
It's not nice to make up random speculation about my life and then
spread it all over the 'net, when you could just as easily ask me any
question you might have and I'll be happy to either clear it up for
you, or tell you it's none of your damned business.
In the mean time, the right wing nutjob brigade has half the country
convinced that Obama wants to eat your gramma's ashes next Tuesday
(with hot sauce, it's a black thing), and they're pushing back against
the most important and effective plan for retooling health care since
Medicare was invented. This is mostly because they're chicken-shit
morons who believe everything they hear from their pathetic,
anacephalic 'leaders' like Limbaugh, Beck, and Coulter. Some of these
morons are showing up to town hall meetings with automatic weapons.
Our country has been through eight years of high-grade bullshit, two
wars, a collapsed economy, and the lurking reality that it will likely
be impossible to ever see those responsible held accountable for any
of it. Our artistic output has slowed to an anemic trickle of bad pop
divas, prefab 'idols,' and imitators blandly recycling the few bright
spots relentlessly and passing it all off as art of beauty, depth, and
meaning. Our nation has been leaning back on the two rear legs of its
barstool for the last three, four years now, hovering right at that
point where it could fall backwards on it's ass, or right
itself...everything from public education to manufacturing to the
banking system to health care to the individual mental health of our
