I have an A7v333 which i have just upgraded to an A7N8X deluxe,
everything worked fine until i booted into win2k, i kept on getting
message from win2k boot that disk was corrupt or not found whilst it
was loading 2k.

I had 2 hard disk in WD 80gb (slave) and maxtor 60gb(master), i had
been using the feature of the a7v333 to boot of the wdc disk (disk 1).

I eventually got new board to recognise maxtor disk and did a clean
install of win2k which seems ok so far ....

problem is the wdc boot partition (which was my C drive) is now
showing as a fat partitioned OS2 partition.

I need some data of this partition and the only options available from
win2k disk manager is to delete or format the partition.

Does anyone know of a way i can fix this ?

I am not your expert but I can tell you from experience what has happened to
me.

I upgraded from A7V133-KT to the A7N8X-dlx and all went well until I tried
to boot to the HD. no go!!!!!!!!!

It seems that the HD Master boot record MBR and the New Motherboard do not
match on data thus a never ending conflict.

First thing I would try is Partition Magic to convert your OS2 partition to
F32 if possible. If that works then try a reboot to the HD active disk.
Make sure you have your active disk on your #1 primary HD MoBo connector.

If this does not work then use a boot floppy and boot to dos and run Fdisk
/mbr to rewrite the MBR to match the new Mobo.

I ended up formatting the C: partition of my WD HD (which stores no
important data) and all went smooth from there. I do hope you have backed up
all important data from your active partition. Use a dos program such as
Xcopy to back up if you need to.

Perhaps the security id magic of w2k and xp is the reason for your
problem with w2k. MS tries to prevent unauthorized cloning of
installations. It's called a security feature. In reality it makes it
difficult to move windows from one disk to another with Ghost,
DriveImage or other tools. You need registry hacking to do it.

Have you tried Linux to get access to the data? If you didn't change mbr
and the partition table this should work. I hope you didn't crypt or
compress your data.

Administrators swiss knife for such operations is Knoppix
(http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html).
It's a Debian Linux which you can boot and run from CD-ROM. It does some
configuration magic to recognise your hardware and the partitions on
your disks.
The problem is that write support for NTFS is still experimental in
Linux. But you can mount the partitions and read the data. And burn it
on CD or copy it to a FAT16/32 partition. Create one on your maxtor
drive. Or use a memory stick.

The problem is: You need the CD-Image and it's Linux. ;-)
But you don't have to change vital informations on your disks by
converting partitons.

Oh .. And you can easily change the partition type with cfdisk (the
linux fdisk). Perhaps this makes your w2k recognise the partition.

If you have no experience with Linux, look for a local Linux User Group
or someone who knows Linux. They can give you a short course in the
basics and more.

I had problems with Ghost (2002 to version I think, though it might have been
the version before it) transferring from one disk to another. DriveImage 2002
worked beautifully for me.

Just my 2 cents.
