The brute force method is to remove the default plugin, npnul32.dll, but
that will also stop prompting for other content types. It's in the
plugin directory where you installed Firebird.
Other options to try:
Set the preference application.use_ns_plugin_finder to false. This is
probably the default so not much help.
Install flash, but disable it in the Plugins box of Downloads pane of
Options in Firebird. Unchecked entries sometimes seem to disappear from
the list during a session - restart to reset this. Actually, this
doesn't seem to be working for all sites.
The extension Flash Click To View. Hasn't been updated in a while and
I think it still downloads the file. Also claims to not be easy enough
