Does anyone think he could pull of the Avada- kadavra (sp)? The fake moody
said the whole class couldn't even give him a nosebleed.

All things considered, it depends upon the physics of the wizard world.
If the strength of a spell is dependent upon the wizard's will, than

If Harry gains the experience and the knowledge, than Voldemort doesn't
stand a chance against Harry should the boy exert the full force of
Avada-kadavra against him.

I scrolled down in the hopes of finding out what a poss is and how one
spoils it. I am notably disappointed.

If a poss isn't refrigerated after opening, it will go really really bad.
I opened one once and left it on the counter when I went to work.
When I got home, the darn thing had run around the house and
chewed the living daylights out of everything it could get it's
hooks into. One big mess, that was. Never opened a poss
again.

Harry has been able to conjure several powerful spells without a wand. In
addition he has been able to shirk an Imperious Curse and pull a major Patronus
not just once but at least (3) times [Ok - the last one was once just seen
twice]

I think that he has massive power (And I personally was very sceptical until
GOF) and just requires focus - or in the case of the Patronus - Major
distraction.

I am convinced that he, likely like his father before him, will be an Auror - a
very very powerful one - and will likely defeat some major death eater figures
including Lucious Malfoy.

I'd rather see Arthur Weasly make the final blow against Lucious.

I think it's the same as with any thing else. He's still young and
learning. Once he's had more experience I think he could do it, even while
he's still young and in school. He was a pretty quick study with the
Imperius curse. I think he's obviously supposed to be something special.
He's already done things that he shouldn't have been able to do because he
is so young. Survive an attack by Voldemort twice, fight the Imperius
curse, produce a patronus. Granted he had help to survive V (mother's
sacrifice and his wand being a brother to V's), but that's still a large
accomplishment. I think we'll definitely see our young hero capable of
using the killing curse. Now this is my question. Will he use it or will
he not be able to actually kill someone because of his nobility? My guess
is that he won't actually kill any of the Death Eaters, but maybe Voldemort.

I'd like to see people spell "Lucius" correctly.

Can't speak for anyone else on this newsgroup, Shadow, but you are
*really* getting up my nose with this. Julie, whatever her original identity
may or may not be has done nothing to deserve your picking on her with this
"Pawz" stuff. Leave it out. It's old.

As for the general question: That has not been answered unambiguously
in the books as yet. Not how powerful he is now (end of GoF), nor how
powerful he will become.

There are basically three schools of thought in this question:

1: Harry will never be particularly powerful. He'll be good at DADA,
but not at putting magical power behind his spell. This is because
he must defeat Voldemort using other means than Voldemort would
use to do defeat him. Letting Harry defeat Voldemort by being the
one to hurl the biggest and most powerful spells would completely
disregard the morals of the conflict.

2: Harry will probably be an extremely powerful wizard when he grows
into his full potential, but as yet he is not particularly stronger
than any other fourth / fifth year student. Harry will eventually
need his magical strength to perform his speciality, which is
Defence Against the Dark Arts. He will not defeat Voldemort by
hurling the stronger spells, but by defending himself cleverly (and
perhaps in other ways as well).

3: Harry could already beat Voldemort in any kind of duel - that's
what the Priori Incantatem shows. As soon as Harry has learnt
sufficient spells he could go against Voldemort and reduce him
to ashes.

My personal opinion is to lean towards number two while still seriously
considering number 1 (for moral reasons). I can't bring myself to
really consider number 3 likely - it is possible, but I see it as /very/
unlikely.

I suppose the above answers this question as well. There is, IMO, no
way that Harry could cast the killing curse at the moment (end of GoF /
start of OotP) - even if the real Moody was to spend a month teaching
him the exact pronunciation and wand movements.

I even doubt very much that Harry will reach that level of magical
power in OotP. Harry has, so far, not won his victories by the use of
magical power, but rather through his quick wit and fast reactions and
not least through the strength of his mind.
