I get an error message when I open my word documents.
First the window installer opens and then goes away..Next a window message
comes up saying word is not installed for current user (which it is).
Then after I click ok it goes everything closes.
Next the same thing happens when I try and then at the end a windows
installer message opens up with error code number 1635.
I take out the office xp cd and I am unable to reinstall. Also I am unable
to delete the office copy on my hard drive in an attempt to reinstall.
In need of help thanks
Steve

This can be caused by several things, but to correct it you will need to
zap the Windows Installer entry in the Registry and reinstall Office.

You didn't include the version of Office you are using so here are links to
both Office 2000 and Office XP:

MS Installer Cleanup utility for Office 2000:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=238413

MS Installer Cleanup utility for Office 2002:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290301

Once you obtain and install the cleanup utility you need to remove the
entry for Office only. Then reinstall Office so the Windows Installer entry
points to your installation CD.

Hi Stephen,

I gather since you referred to SP1 that you are using Office XP?

If you are then it's been my experience that reinstalling Office XP doesn't
remove the SPs.

One way to verify this though is to try reinstalling SP1 or go to
http://office.microsoft.com/productupdates/ and use the "Check for Office
updates" utility.

Also note there is a SP2 patch available for Office XP as well:
