Excel won't open files later than Version 2.
Try the following link to a trial version of a conversion program.
Or wait until someone who has Works on their computer offers to receive and
convert and mail back if the files isn't too sensitive.

Generally you would normally open the file in WORKS and then save it down as a file that Excel can
read. .xlr is a native Excel format, or .txt, .csv, dbaseIV are all formats it can read. You
can also find a converter here if you don't have WORKS.

Text from the website above:-
Microsoft does not provide an import Excel filter for Works-WKS files later than version 2. (for
Works-WPD and Word they do). There is no standard way to convert a lot of Works-WKS files into the
Excel format. You need to save each file out of Works manually into XLS which is a pain in the
neck. Here comes our MS Works Spreadsheets to Excel Converter. It does not need a Works
Installation and you can use the batch converting wizard (see right side).
a.. Completely integrated into Excel 97/2000/XP, no external program
b.. Imports MS Works Spreadsheet (*.WKS) 3.x ,4.x, 200x files
c.. Convenient, selfextracting and selfinstalling setup procedure
d.. Can be removed completely with standard deinstall procedure
e.. Works with Windows 9x, ME, NT 4, 2000, XP
f.. Our RL-File-Conversion-Wizard is part of the package
g.. Converts cell alignments, font styles, etc.
h.. Excel helper macros to make migration easier
i.. No need for a Works installation
j.. Free Updates: Our registered customers can download the latest version from our download
area at any time

No problems! Guess who forgot to paste the very link you've included. Thanks for
the catch.
I've been thinking how much quieter it is with UK and USA public holidays
coinciding tomorrow (Monday). But I finally got the linkages worked out.
England declared the Public Holiday on Monday to celebrate the Test Match
victory against Zimbabwe, whilst Zimbabwe has a Day of Mourning? USA takes it
off to try and discover what cricket is. Northern Ireland and Wales are
rejoicing at their cultures not being infected by this disease. Australia? No
holiday for us; not that many would notice.

Come on, we both knew we would beat them, we even declared the holiday
befire the year began! A mighty cricket power (sic!) will always beat a very
good second-best (double sic!).
> USA takes it off to try and discover what cricket is.
They need to know that there is such a thing before they might even attempt
to discover it.
> Australia? No holiday for us; not that many would notice.
Life's a holiday there, you don't deserve formal days off.
FYI it is an extremely ancient ritualistic religion.

Ignorance is bliss.
It's not believe me. Cricket has a depth that repays the effort required to
understand it.

"Cricket has a depth that repays the effort required to understand it."
True of a lot of these things. Even Excel! Look at the hidden depth here. Just a
glance at a selection of posts reveals how much is hidden underneath. It also
reveals how wide are the applications across the disciplines. You can't hope to
know it all or all of the applications.
But I certainly found baseball interesting when visiting USA during the World
Series a few years ago. All those complicated rules and tactics needed
understanding and appreciation. I guess there was also a fair amount of logic
and history behind it. But easy to make fun of it; Bob Newhart did quite a good
job on baseball and there's a well known "in and out" thing on cricket.
I take overseas visitors to one day International matches if there's any on and
have done for years. They all seem to enjoy it and at least have the experience
to look back on. But 3/4 day matches and 5 day Tests are for the "true
believers". I wouldn't recommend the first day of a County match in May in
English so called Summer but Harlan might enjoy it. <vbg>

No, I prefer Gaelic football and rugby (only played the latter), though I
don't mind Australian football. Who needs depth? I prefer pain.
