Whether NERO v5.582 pops up with the "Classic" (read: SUPERIOR)
interface or the new Nero Express interface is a function of the
serial number.
To make it crystal clear, certain serial numbers will have it run as
NERO EXPRESS while others will have it run as NERO CLASSIC.
Use this serial # to get the old classic interface: 1501-0128-4073-2567-4248-7636
Does this /w have any permanent, lasting, effects?
Or can one simply use it just to see what the new Wizard is like,
and then revert to the normal set-up, i.e., is it just a 'switch'?
I recall that when I installed 5.5.7.8 (no previous Nero) it
sets it to use the Wizard by default, which I soon switched off,
because there's hardly any options there. But if this new Express
or Wizard or whatever is better, maybe I could recommend it to others,
because I don't expect I'll abandon the dialog panels (using 5.5.8.2
now).
Yes, not only it is quite attractive, but it offers more options
than the old Wizard. That /w was great detective work!
Now, since /w blatantly refers to /wizard, why in the world would
they not replace the old wizard completely with this?
That's because once one goes to the Classic "powerful" interface,
the Use Wizard option on the Help menu will bring up still the
old wizard... I guess we're supposed to test this out?
And why is this not even mentioned on the History web site page?

You could also make a copy of the Nero shortcut and modify the target to include the /w switch, rename it, and have both available to use whenever. Personally, I don't care much for the Express version and am more comfortable with the classic interface, but, of course, to each...

However, a few notes:
1) You have both options of burning a DATA CD as well as a MP3 CD.
For most people who already have MP3 files at hand, don't use MP3 CD
mode! It'll check every file for MP3 compatibility (takes FOREVER) and
it's only doing so to make sure all of the files you burn to a MP3 CD to
playback in a MP3 CD player is in or will be converted to MP3 format.
Nice if you're burning WAVE files, terrible if you're burning MP3
files. Instead, simply dump all the files into a DATA CD layout and
you'll be on your way in moments.
2) The file browser window takes a hiccup to read all of the files in a
directory. They're trying to be fancy here, but not as lighting quick
to use as can be. Not so slow however that you'll shoot it. It does
come up as a seperate window, so that's a bit annoying as well. When
you add a file, the file window gets pushed behind the Nero window, so
you have to move windows around to get the file window back up to the
front again. Annoying and they should simply have docked it to the side
of the main window instead.
3) Have no way to specify the Mode and File system options when burning
discs using this mode. You can't specify ISO 1 mode + Joliet or ISO 1
only or ISO 1 + Joliet + relaxed file naming, etc. While this does not
have any affect on people who mostly use Windows, it's a sorry missing
feature when you're trying to make sure a disc is as compatible with as
many OSs as possible.
4) Doesn't all fit in a 800x600 screen well when the toolbar is at the
top (why put it at the top? Click on the START button and see how far
your mouse has to move if it's at the bottom to get to a program in the
PROGRAMs folder vs. at the top), until you move the window about a bit.
5) Pretty as heck. Already dropped in two icon shortcuts for normal and
pretty modes.

If you do this, you can go to the other interface by clicking the Nero
button. It says you can toggle back to the Express interface, but how?

And of course asking Nero is a waste of time.
