I was wondering is SUS 2.0 would support deploying service packs and
office updates. I have a lot of machines that need service pack
updates and I'd rather not use the old sneaker net. Office updates
and enhanced reporting would be great too.

Any idea when 2.0 is coming out? It seems like people have been
talking about if for a few months now.

Thanks,

Todd

Have you considered using Group Policy to deploy service packs?

Cheers
Ken

I have not tried that yet. I really need something that can be
deployed in a distributed manner since i have 70 locations and the
pipes are not always very big. Do you have any links for tips on
deploying SP4 (and other patches)via Group Policy? How does it
determine whether or not SP4 is already installed? I really haven't
done a whole lot with GP yet.

Thanks,

Todd

Thanks for the information. I can't tell from the information
provided and on the website if MSUS will support applying service
packs. It seems to require at least service pack 3 on the clients
and I still have machines out there that have SP2 (I know....).

Thanks,

Todd

I havr tried to assign SP3 installation in a test enviornment, and we are
going to do deploy into the production enviornment.

The SP installation MSI will help to detect whether the workstation need to
be insatall the service pack or not. After you have assign the service pack
installation to the Domain/OU, and when you logon the workstation which the
service pack will apply to, it will do the installation just after you have
logged on (no start button, cannot interrupt) and you can only wait until
the installation finish. Then reboot after the installation complete.

Sounds great ! I have a question : I have modified the default group
policy at my top level domain with the WU settings. When I look at
the OU's in the domain they do not show the default domain policy. Do
they inhert the higher level GP's or do I have to add the default GP
at each OU level?

Thanks,

Todd

Things are going well, I was able to get the AU client and SP4
deployed with GP. Mostly had problems with permissions, I added
Domain Computers and Authenticated Users as Read access the to shares.
I am also going to add Domain Controllers since they seem to be
having a problem. I've found that the policies are inherited it just
doesn't show them unless you use GPMC or some other tools...
