Does someone know about this? www.newport.edu

Also, does anyone know anything about Newport Asia Pacific University?
Anyone ever dealt with them? Does it meet GAAP?

Thanks

Bruce

Unaccredited -- not to be confused with the regionally accredited Christopher
Newport University (http://www.cnu.edu), which offers a 100% online B.A. in
Philosophy and Religious Studies that I somehow overlooked in compiling the
first version of my "external philosophy and religion degrees" list.

Unaccredited.

Information gleaned from Bears' Guide and from checking domain registrations,
etc, suggest (though not conclusively) that Newport University and Newport Asia
Pacific University may, in fact, be operated by the same people.

Newport Asia Pacific University claims to be from ?? Singapore, so I'm not
sure I would look for it to be RA accredited. The Newport.edu crowd seems
to be multi-national which is extremely confusing to me but does claim some
Dutch (?) accreditation.

Yeah, well, they're not from Singapore - they're one of many schools that
operate out of California, Hawaii, etc, that market their 'American education'
(!) to other countries. They are based in California.

As for the Dutch thing? Give me a break, man. Unrecognized accreditation.

Newport has claimed accreditation over the years from various agencies,
none of them recognized. Their claimed ISO standard is one they wrote
themselves, thus not exactly well accepted.

Newport owner Theron Dalton sold some of his assets fairly recently, and I
think both Westport University (Utah) and Newport Asia Pacific benefited
(so to speak). I believe, but cannot be absolutely certain, that Newport
Asia Pacific is run/controlled by "Doctor" Al-Jamie in Japan, who, until
recently (to my considerable embarrassment) was also the Heriot-Watt agent
for Japan.

It is almost sad that Newport Asia isn't a real school, they appear to have
a well thought out 'teaching Japanese as a foreign language' M.A.

And their M.A. in either TESOL or Applied Linguistics is quite likely as good
as most any in the U.S. since it was designed by David Nunan, one of the
foremost applied linguists in the world.
