Just been listning to the new Dio album.

If your a through and through Dio fan your opinion of the album might be
very different from mine, but I'm the kinda guy that loved Dio's work in
Rainbow and Black Sabbath and Holy Diver and Last In Line but from there on
lost touch with him.

The album, after Magica, is IMHO one big step closer to the 'old' material.
The Rainbow and BS influences are more there then anything he has done after
LIL.
I wonder if working with Purple had anything to do with that.

The first thing you notice is that he only used about 45 minutes, making it
almost a vinyl album as far as time goes.

The first track is BS'ish, and Along Came A Spider, track 2, reminds me so
much of the old Rainbow tunes.

Track 3 and 4 are more of the same, and the next time I lean foreward to
have a closer listen is Track 5.

With Rock & Roll Dio has made his "Kashmir". The riff also reminds me of
Whitesnake's Judgement Day, wich was WS's "Kashmir".

Again track 6 and 7 are good, but not amazing.

Throw Away Children has everything to become a Dio classic. Lyrics are very
good to IMHO.

track 8 & 9 finish the album in a non spectacular way.

It's good to see Dio back at the more melodic hard-rock side, I just wished
he could have produced a more spectacular album. Most songs are alike, or
more of the same. It kinda gives me that ol' Abandon feeling.

The artwork IS spectacular though.

The first step back is made and make no mistakes, I think it's an important
and very good one. Just hope that next time Ronnie is able to fill the album
with more musically highlights and make the album more deverse.

So the standout tracks IMHO are Killing The Dragon, Along Came A Spider,
Rock & Roll and Throw Away Children. I'm not gonna grade the album, 'cause
it's only my opinion. Just hope that this review makes ya check the album
out yourself.

Greetz,

Harrie

[etc]

Thanks for the review, Harrie. He's not playing anywhere near me on his UK
tour this year, and I really don't want to travel a long distance (too
many far-away concerts already this year). So I wish you hadn't made the
album sound so good. Now I've got a more difficult decision :-(

Have you got a list of dates and venues available? Just mildly curious in
case I decide to take in the little wrinkly one's show this tour...
