Go to control panel, multimedia and check to show the volume control in
system tray and the regular volume controls are back.

To get rid of the the cmedia mixer you have to go into the registry and
delete the "mixer" from the "run" section - so from memory go to regedit
and then to Hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion
\run and you can delete the mixer entry.

You can also do it from msconfig

Use Startup Cop. It's easier/safer than editing the registry. Used it for
years - works great!
