Hello from a lurker,

Has anyone heard of the two institutions above? I've just received the
following e-mail from them and have done a bit of basic research, but
haven't been able to turn up anything definitive:

"To Whom It May Concern:

How would you like to become a partner with American Coastline
University and
CALCampus to offer an Online Master of Arts in TESOL on your web site?

Your web site at <snip> currently offers similar courses in English
and Certificate programs. You could be offering the MA in TESOL where
you
make money just for bringing your clients to our program by hosting
and
highlighting it on your site.

Please contact Dr. Morabito if you would be interested in such an
arrangement
and work out the details with her. Dr. Morabito has spent three years
researching this program which she has developed with up-to-date
content. You
may visit her web site at http://www.calcampus.com/matesol.htm for
detailed
information.

Dr. Morabito may be contacted at: Dire...@calcampus.com

Thank you for your time in this matter and I hope we can work
together.

Sincerely,

Richard J. Hoyer, Ph.D., Psy.D.
Chairman/CEO
American Coastline University
http://www.amercoastuniv.edu"

Thanks for any hints,

Eric

Well that explains (among other things) why Dr. Hoyer selected American
Coastline University as one of the "Top 20" programs in America, in his
little $20 book, "A College Degree in Your Spare Time."

When Louisiana's new laws came on line last year, it became illegal to offer
anything but purely religious degrees (Doctor of Divinity, etc.) without
state permission. When I checked with state administrator Dr. Larry Tremblay
recently, he told me that American Coastline had failed to gain approval,
and was thus restricted only to these religious degrees.

So truly, I have no idea what's going on in the aftermath of the death last
year of ACU's founder, Ray Chasse, but if Dr. Hoyer is offering
non-religious degrees (and it sure sounds as if he is, with the TESOL
proposal), it would seem to be in contravention of Louisiana law.

Incidentally, but relevantly, American Coastline's "International
Communication Center" (as identified on their website) is a Mailboxes Etc.
box rental store.
