OSR507 adds support for the Broadcom 570x series of gigabit ethernet
cards. There may be some other gig drivers as well; I happen to know
about that one because I was looking into a motherboard with an embedded
Broadcom gigabit chipset.

You can get drivers for this beastie, and a few of the Compaq cards as well

I have not tested it yet, but,
Seneca Data just shipped me a new intel SHG2 server with it's on board
intel gigabit nic all configured in netconfig. This is of course 5.0.6
I don't know where they got the driver or if it works, but it looks
normal enough just from software. I did use netconfig to change the
nics ip address and ifconfig shows it as on-line. I only have a cable
plugged into the 10/100 nic at the moment though. If there be drivers
for this beastie (as there appear to be from above) I have aother site
that already has a shg2 server that I would consider suggesting them
to get a switch with a gigabit port for the server. When I installed
the server, it came from a different vendor (not Seneca) without a
driver for the gigabit, and I couldn't find any on the web, though I
didn't look too hard because I had way too much else going on that
weekend to worry about getting a gigabit nic working when there were
no other gigabit devices in the building anyways.

Not a brand-name machine. A friend of mine is planning to upgrade his
dual-PIII-1GHz to a dual-P4-Xeon-2+GHz. We were trying to spec out the
best motherboard for OSR5 compatibility and number of free slots (he has
several oddball devices and requirements)... I think a couple of
SuperMicros and maybe a Tyan or Asus were still in the running, last I
heard.

The gigabit NIC (and associated port) ought to support 10, 100, 1000
speeds. Try hooking up to your 10 or 100 network with it. If you can
demonstrate OSR5 pushing bits over an Intel gigabit NIC chip, even at
10/100 speeds, you've got your hands on a mystery driver...
I am very curious...
Show us what the config looks like in `netconfig`. Show us `hw -v -r
pci` output pertaining to the gigabit NIC. Show the `hwconfig -h`
laundry list line...

In about 40 minutes I'll move the cable from the 10/100 port to the
1000 port and see if it actually works.

of the pro/1000 stuff available on the intel site, I don't find these
drivers, unless they are included with the Unixware or OpenUnix
packages and it just doesn't say so on the outside.

couple OS's you can request a driver via email. OSR5 was not mentioned
in that spot, but maybe elsewhere, or maybe it's available that way
but not mentioned anywhere the average joe can read it, but someone
like a large volume system seller may have contacts.

My contact at Seneca just told me that they got the driver from Acer,
because they sell a lot of Acer boxes, and one of Acer's new servers
has a PRO/1000 TX embedded, which is the same as on the Intel SHG2.
Apparently it's available on Acers web site, but I didn't find it
inside of 5 minutes and I have to run now and can't look further until
later. Perhaps someone else can find it now that I've taken it this
far.

I don't have any gigabit devices to plug it in to. And neither does
the customer, who now has the box I've been talking about.
I'm going to try creating a tar of all the files I found and all the
eeG lines in the kernel config files and see if I can't get my other
SHG2 server to get it's gigabit nic working. I was not able to find
the drivers on the Acer site, even though I was able to find the
driver & downloads page associated with one of their newer servers
that has the same embedded PRO/1000 XT .
I'll have to get Seneca to be more specific in telling me where to get
it.
I'll post it here, if allowed, if I do get the prize.

So, I asked around internally and apparently we're supposed to be
getting a handoff of the eeG driver, to be made available some time
after OSR507 ships.

You might get away with it. Another way: set up the user "swadmin" on
the box that already has it. From the other box, run `custom`, tell it
"install"; "from another host"; the host that has it. See if you can
get it to offer you the driver. See:

I'd feel funny actually putting it on a public www or ftp site, but,
It was given to me via email with absolutely no comments or hints
about if there is an explicit or implied nda in effect that my source
or myself might be breaking, so I have only the contents of the zip
file itself to go by.
There is the briefest glancing reference to a license, but no copy of
it nor pointer to it nor even a title or name which could be looked
up.
So in the absence of any counter evidence, I declare myself free offer
