Problem.............
Got a new Antec case with front USB ports.
The colors on wires are the same as the ones on the pair of usb ports on the
back plate for the A7N8X.
The connector is wired the same.
Connected them, plugged in USB modem, camera, nothing, dead.
USB front ports not working.

This may seem odd, but have you changed the # of USB ports in the BIOS?

My P4C800-E only enabled the back 4 by default, I have to turn on 5/6 for
the front panel, and 7/8 if i was to install the backplate they give me too.

This is with a Antec Sonata case too..

You don't mention the Antec case model number. I've built a couple using the
SL 835. On those I had to hook up all 9 wires from the case to the mbd to
get the front port to work. The connector with the double wire I had to put
on pin 9 ( the unused ground).

Asus A7N8X DLX with Antec SLK3700-BQE.
The connector on this case is wired exactly the same as the one for the
backplate pair of USB ports.
Pin for pin, color for color, only one way round to connect and that is
exaclty the same way as the one for this board.
2 rows of 4 wires, 2 empty in the same place as the one for this board.
No double blacks, no extra earth/screen.
No 9 wires on the case connector or MB.

R W Grn Blk blanked out
R W Grn Blk empty
Exactly as the backplate one for this board.
Since found that one of the two front ports work, other does not.

The data leads are (1)-D and (1)+D and the other set is (2)-D and (2)+D.
If you mix (1)-D with (2)+D, it won't work, so check that the wiring
looks something like this.

+5V (1)-D (1)+D GND (NC = No Connect)
+5V (2)-D (2)+D GND

I have an Antec Sonata case and the front USB ports didn't work on it
initially either. After checking the wiring with an ohmmeter, I found
that the green wire (I think it was +D) was reversed between ports 1 and
2. In other words, the one labeled as (1)+D was really (2)+D and vice
versa. All the other wires were properly labeled.

After swapping the green wires, the front USB ports now work. Maybe you
have a similar problem.
