SO just wondering if this so called extra that dealers try to hit you
with (the teflon sealant) is still a bunch of crap. When I bought my
Ram in 98, I went to a detailing supply store and bought a bottle of
this stuff and applied it myself.

Wondering if that was a waste too, and if I had should have stuck with
good quality wax (Meguiars for example) from the beginiing (Meguiars
is what I use anyways).

Roger,

I would just give it a good wax job. I have used those Teflon sealant
concoctions before and I think they don't work any better than a good
waxing..

I agree. But you hear all that hype about it.

Don't waste your $$ on that crap!! A good wax job with a good quality wax
is all you need. That Teflon stuff and all the "miracle" polymers you see
advertised are just a way to lighten your wallet.

If you want a really good wax, try Griot's Garage Best of Show wax.

www.griotsgarage.com

It's pricey, but it's worth it!!

Good luck with the new truck!!

Good wax n polish should do the job. If you're looking for the best out
there, check out http://www.zainobros.com you can't buy it in the stores but
it's absolutely the best stuff I've ever used...

I've always wondered why a product that is supposedly so good is only
available over the internet. Were they around before?

Roy, I don't know how long they've been around but probably for quite some
time before the internet was big. They used to sell their products at car
shows and their popularity took off from there. They've been tested in many
magazines and always come up as number one. They don't only sell on the
internet, they have individual dealers that sell it from their homes. The
guy I get it from lives about 20 mins up I-35, he drives a '98 Viper...

For a distributer near you, this is the number: 732-833-8800 if you're
interested. No, I'm not one of them, just really think this is a great
product.

Thanks for the #. How many steps are there and how well does it hold up?

Roy, the way I did it is the following:

1. First wash the truck with Dawn to get "old" wax off (like crappy Turtle
Wax or something)

2. Put on a first layer of Z-1 (Polish Lok)

3. Don't wipe off Z-1, put on a coat of Z-2 (Show Car Polish)

4. Let it dry for a MINIMUM of an hour, a maximum of 24 hours. The longer
you let it sit, the better it will bond with the paint.

5. Use a 100% cotton American-made towel, like a FieldCrest towel and buff
it all up

6. Apply a fine layer of Z-6 Gloss Enhancer

And that's it. There are some other products like the Clay Bar that I also
bought, but I used it on my roommate's car, not my truck. It's amazing how
much crap that get off the paint, you can actually hear it come off, it's
brilliant... The Zaino website actaully has detailed steps how to detail
the complete car and was products you do/do not need...

I've used the claybar on a couple of Corvettes, probably the most important
thing for a decent polish/wax. Is the Z a polish or a wax?
Have you tried Liquid Glass?

Roy, it's a polish, not a wax. The claybar scares the crap out of me, I
used it on my tailgate only and it's definately a lot smoother than the rest
of the truck when, but I think I left minor scratches because of the claybar
in the paint... I had 2 layers of Zaino on my truck until I got some
bodywork done at the Dodge dealership and they decided to be nice and just
re-wax my whole truck. So I had to remove all their wax with Dawn and start
all over again...

The Texas vs. Oklahoma game is this weekend in Dallas and I'm getting myself
a new CB for the way up there and just though I'd give it another coat of
Zaino whilst I'm at it...

You might have uncovered the scratch's with the claybar. I've used them for
quite a number of years, back to when lacquer was the way to go with no
problem at all. You MUST keep things wet at all times though. I use prep sol
to get the wax off. It moves everything.
Happy rubbing!

When claying the paint, a lubricant of some kind should be used. I make my
own and I will share my secret recipe with y'all.

1 oz Murphy's Oil Soap
2 oz glycerin (available at pharmacies)
29 oz distilled water

Mix this in a 32 oz spritz bottle and spray it on the finish before claying
the paint. Clay a 3-4 foot square section off at a time and rinse with a
hose. Makes your finish slicker that a baby's behind and will not harm the
paint. Follow up with a good quality wax.
