Several weeks ago, I posted a message here in response to someone else's
request for neuroscience information. Today I see an advertisement on this
message board from a place called Bridgewater University. That advertisement
was somehow connected to the message I posted several weeks ago. I have
absolutely no connection or affiliation with that University or the
advertisement on this board, and I resent their using my name and my message in
their advertisement. Is there some way that my message can be dissociated from
that advertisement? Is there a board monitor here? Thanks for your help.

What some usenet spammers do is use the ligitamate names of people in
newsgroups for their advertising.

That is what probably happened.

Hi Jeff. Thank you for your reply. Do you know whether there is someone I can
contact in order to have that post removed, or at least have my name removed
from that spamming post?

I am sure that Bridgewater University and all the other schools in the
posting feel the same way you do. That was a "TEST" post by an idiot
who does not understand usenet.

There was NO advertisement posted, it looked to me like some random
results from a google search.

But you are right, it should be removed by the moderator.

Test posts should contain the words: "TEST ignore" in the subject.

Chemqueries, don't worry about it. As I read the post, which is
clearly non-sensical but doesn't seem to be malicious, it reads simply
as a response to your posting which is included. You did, in fact,
post the material that was attibuted to you and no one would ever
think you were responsible for whatever nonsense is posted in reply.

I don't think this news group is moderated so there is no one to
delete it. Just igore it.

Not to worry. Someone simply replied to your message with that
information. It is clear your messages was quoted, and that you did
not post that other material. At least, this is true for anyone with
even a small understanding of usenet. If anyone bothers you saying
otherwise, feel free to ignore them.
