I think the culprit is the via chipset used. Btw, I'm on a amd 800 w/
256 mg ram, asus a7v mb.
Thanks for any info.
I have exactly the same problem with my Abit KT7 motherboard - I think it has the same VIA KT133 chipset as your board. My scanner and printer would work for a short while and then hang. They'd appear in device manager, but would stop responding within minutes of booting up.
I had no luck installing VIA 4-in-1 Drivers version 4.25 or 4.26 or the USB Filter Driver version 1.08. Another recommendation I received was to turn off error detection on the USB Hub in Control Panel|System|Device Manager - no joy there, either.
I finally solved my problem by adding a cheap add-on board, providing me with two additional USB ports. My scanner and printer work perfectly with the add-on board. Funny, though, my Logitech USB Optical mouse works fine with the on-board USB ports.... go figure.
An interesting thought: my mouse receives all it's power from the USB port. The printer and scanner do not... could this be a coincidence?
I thought the Abit board, with 4 on-board USB ports would be great... if only I could use them!
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. If you haven't tried the 4-in-1 4.25 drivers (I don't recommend the 4.26 because they're not an official release), the USB Filter Driver 1.08 or disabling USB error detection, you might give it a whirl.
