Hello, timekeepers. I recently purchased a Netgear RP614 NAT router and
discovered, after sniffing some ethernet packets, that this device
periodically queries an NTP server with the domain name
"caesar.cs.wisc.edu". After discussing my findings with Netgear customer
support they confirmed that this is done to synchronize/set the clock in
the NAT box. The user cannot turn off this query nor can a different NTP
server be specified. The caesar.cs.wisc.edu appears to be either down or
non-existent as confirmed by pinging. Can anyone shed some light on the

The server may have response to ICMP packets turned off.
I've been using this server since January with no problems.
It has been very reliable. Here is my most recent log entry:
