I'm sure this has been answered before in many ways. I currently run a G450
DH but inadvertantly fried it, so I need to replace it. What advantages
would I see with the new G550? I'm running 2 Viewsonic 17 in monitors and
the G450 has worked just fine. Would I gain or loose anything by upgrading?
I know I won't go flat panel until several upgrades from now. I also use TV
out to view slide shows sometimes. Thanks for any input.

You will be able to see you own head in 3D! Seriously, from what I've read,
you won't see much improvement in 2D performance or image quality. 3D gets
the biggest boost. The G450 is like a TNT 2 ultra but the G550's 3D
performace is close to a GeForce 2 MX. I don't know about any differences
when it come to using TV out, though, which seems to be your biggest area of
concern. As you already know, the G550 has much better support for flat
panels LCDs.

Steven

Neither

I had a G400 DH with a RR G and had to upgrade when I upgraded to XP and
found out Matrox has no intention to support the RR in XP. So I purchased a
Radeon 8500 (supports flat panel) and AverTV Studio. The Radeon still has
some driver issues but I feel the 2D is clearer and color better on my
Diamond Pro 900u than the G400.

With Matrox appearing to be abandonning the consumer video card market my
advice is to find another manufacture. ATI may not be right for you, but
pick a manufacturer that you know will be supporting your card in a year or
two.

I know Matrox are not the most popular cards, but I am really hooked on the
dual monitor config. And to the best of my knowledge Matrox is the only one.
I've been pleased with the 2D performance in the G450, however for gaming
and 3D benchmarks it really sucks. Is it possibe to run a Voodoo2 or 3 on a
PCI slot for just 3D apps??

of course!
You can plug dual-monster2s inside for 3d-speed.
For v3 or v5, dont know, seems to be problematic with your dual-monitor
config
(would then be a triple monitor setup?)

Greetings,
Cedric
