I recently bought a Philips/Magnavox DVD825 player. I did a lot of
research before I bought it and for the money I wanted to spend, it
seemed to be the best player.

I'm curious about the upgradability of it, which is one of the advertised
functions. Are there any upgrades as of yet and if so, where would I find
them? The philips website does not mention any, but I read a brief post
about somebody wanting a firmware upgrade CD. Does such a CD exist? And
what does it do?

Thanks for the help everyone!

That is a very good question. I have good news and bad news. But first we
need to know which firmware version you have. Go into your setup menu and
press the down button until doesn't go any further. It will then display
your firmware version.

The Bad news: Philips will not send you a CD to update your player. I have
my DVD825 for about 8 months now, and I have never received an update from
Philips. (even though I have written several e-mails and have called their
service hotline many times) They want you to send your player to them to be
updated. (at your own expense, of course!)

The Good news: If you have a CD burner (or know someone who does), you can
download the latest(?) firmware version off the internet.
(http://members.tripod.com/flash_cd/) You can then burn it to a CD and
update your player.

I'm not exactly sure what the update offers, but my player doesn't pause
anymore when changing layers.

I hope that this would be of some help to you (and others).
