THE BEAR HUNT'S OVER

Dr. John Bear of California, author of the Bears Guide to Earning
Degrees Non-traditionally, was sentenced to 20 years of prison for
counts of fraud and deceptive business practice.
When questioned for such harsh sentencing, Justice Wayne LeBlanc
responded: "It was unacceptable to me that Dr. Bear presented himself
as an independent education consultant to his clients and recommended,
or influenced them on choosing the unrecognized Columbia Pacific
University for their degrees, when in fact he was involved in the
whole scam."
Bear was one of the owners of the unrecognized Columbia Pacific
University, Columbia State University, and involved in similar and
unrecognized schools: Fairfax University and Greenwich University. A
court order was issued which forced Columbia Pacific University to
seize its operation and had gone out of business ever since.
Bear was also the American agent for marketing UK's legitimate Heriot
Watt University's MBA program. We telephoned Prof. Pat Roberts, the
then-Department Head of the Business department, who said: "Bear was a
good worker, but we had to let him go once we learned of his previous
scams. The time-bomb blew and he knew it was coming."
During the session, Bear defended his integrity by saying that he had
always warned others that they needed to be concerned about their
present and future needs with their unaccredited degrees.
In his statement to the media, Prosecutor Harrison Smith said: "Bear's
cautionary advice about unaccredited degrees meant nothing to me. I
cared only what he had actually done. He had been known for his
psychological games and his scams to the public. He announced his
retirements three times and had people rushed to the bookstore to buy
his scam guides, thinking they were the last editions. Next thing we
knew was that the publisher was already designing the book cover for
the next edition." Smith added: "Scam artist as such almost always
returns for those little and purposeful green papers."
"One down and a hundred or so to go," remarked Laura Hanson, an FBI
agent who was in charged of the operation. "We had been watching
Degreeinfo closely and had taken in two individuals for questioning.
All I could say is that we had observed similar scams in which another
self-proclaimed expert announced a number of departures from
discussing distance learning but only to return moments later. I was
convinced that he would return, considering that this individual had
no real job and enjoyed posting in every bloody newsgroup he could
find" said Hanson, but she would not release any names.
Degreeinfo.com, supposedly an education discussion forum, had been
soliciting members and guests for cash through the purchase of its
books.

"Justice Wayne LeBlanc" turns up exactly zero hits. There is no judicial
record of this case. Heriot-Watt had nothing to do with Bear's role as
North American agent. (This deal was with the publisher of the course
materials, not the school.) One can only conclude that this must be true,
right? Yeah, sure.
It's not just a fake, it's a bad fake.

I attest to the fact that I stood on the witness stand against Dr. John
Bear, who sold me a useless Columbia Pacific Ph.D., and also to my
wife, a Columbia State University Ph.D. Both of these schools are not
in business today and were never recognized.
I had confronted Dr. Bear many times on the fact that I was never
informed of his ownerships of the unaccredited and unrecognized
Columbia Pacific and Columbia State Universities, before my enrolment.
The same goes for my wife.
In the early 90's, emails were virtually non-existent. I had, bitterly,
kept faxes that were sent to me and my wife from Dr. John Bear. These
documents show Dr. Bear's clear ownership of these fraudulent schools.
I received threats in which the unaccredited status of my hard-eared
Columbia Pacific Ph.D. (and my wife's Columbia State Ph.D.) would be
exposed to our employers, which was part of the information given to
John Bear during our consultation session.
At the age of 63, and with my pension secured, I now make available
these faxes and letters to the public. These were the same documents
used in court when Justice Leblanc sentenced Dr. John Bear to 20 years
of prison for counts of fraud.
