a little help here please.

I'm in Seattle and simply cannot get the guava and cheese pastries I love
from miami. I have some ingredients and will give it a try. who knows how
you're supposed to give the filo bread that sticky light taste?!?!

My wife is directing me to an irian cookbook on baklava for the bread
part...

if anyone can steer me or can take the time to type up some instructions, I
am really missing them.

thanks,

don

First of all, I think you need to buy the book, The Food Lover's
Guide to Seattle. They have extensive food listings and you may be
able to find someone who makes them. Seattle and the outlying areas
have a very large Latino community. Check it out.
Second, using filo pastry will give you a sticky light taste with
sugar and butter. The Greeks also use filo extensively.
I've never tried the dessert you speak of, but it sounds wonderful.

Sounds like it's a Cuban dish...try this (and searching for "pastelitos
recipe" probably on google):
http://icuban.com/food/pastelitos.html

or these results from google:

On a random note, one of my mom's favorite deserts recently has been guyava
con rompope. yum.
