Michel,

Microsoft have reinstated the running of Java
programs in IE 6 for Windows XP. Should work
just as well under Windows 98.

Download the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine
(msjavx86.exe) from
http://www.dreamscape.co.kr/bbs/bbs.cgi?db=3

Here is the exact link. Unfortunately the other links
are not presently working or have expired.

http://www.dreamscape.co.kr/bbs/data/3/msjavx86.exe

msjavx86.exe (5.24 MB)

If you get access login errors on that site, try this one.

http://www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/MSJavx86_CD24D109B33421DB6728FBDC80C9F572EB7A3865.exe

Copy the entire link into IE 6's address bar. Drag your
cursor over the two lines, then right click and copy
to the clipboard.

Go to www.downloads.com Then below software developer
it says java. Click that. Then when you see Microsoft
virtual machine click it to download it.

Install it ( 5 MB )

Good Luck,

Brian

(from "anonymous" feedback):

"MS own java you can download on those pages is not worth a
cent. It is version 1.1.dontknow and qGo wont run on it. So
you will always have to download Suns Java for qGo.

"The MS own java is so bad, many people actually thought it is
good that it was taken out, as it forces people to install
Suns Java and have a real Java engine.

"Old Java programs will run on MS java, but newer software
like qGo or CGoban2 not."

Perhaps that was the source, rather than the cause, of the
problem, then. So did anyone on XP encounter difficulty at
installing or operating Sun's Java Product?

I had no problem installing sun's java 1.4 and the webstar, other than
the usual slowness (sorry i don't the correct english word) inherent to
that solution.
