Anyone going to Tcl 2001?

I'm really curious as to how many of you find people I will be fortunate
to greet at the upcoming Tcl conference? Perhaps those of us who frequent
(even if only as lurkers) the newsgroup should make some sort of concerted
effort to get together. Also be certain to mention the conference on web
forums, mailing lists, etc. on which you discuss tcl related issues.
You know, I always wondered why, when we amass such great collections of
energies, why we don't have some sort of community project to improve
some specific aspect of Tcl... you know, like 'code for the codeless
humanity, a library of useful Tcl functions...'

Oh definitely. So you're going to be there? I plan to chat with everyone
I've posted and emailed with ;-) Oh, and three other Finns will be
joining in the fun too -- one of them is a perler...

At present, I have no plans to be there. Kinda hard to justify a conference
when one doesn't have a job. But I'm working on it...
I think a late night coding session would be cool. Maybe completely solve
one of the TIPs, or solve some nagging problem that no one has found the
desire to tackle alone.

I'll be there - airline tickets bought and room/car reserved. Now if
I can just get my paper past my companies legal department so I can
get it submitted by the June 1 deadline. Sigh! This long Memorial Day
weekend came at the wrong time. :-\

Well, I thought that last year's "Texas Tcl Shootout" was lots of fun.
Wouldn't mind doing something like that again. I don't think that
is quite what you have in mind, though. Perhaps it could be set up as
an ongoing BoF session for several evenings of the conference. Then
it could be migrated to SourceForge for follow-on work.
One project that I think would benefit the entire Tcl community is
setting up the mechanisms to support a Tcl extension archive network,
much like that of Perl's CPAN. I'd call it CANTCL (pronounced
canticle) - Contributed Archive Network for Tool Command Language.
Just a thought....

I like that play with words.
Note that there are a number of names for such a thing at the NICS
(http://pitch.nist.gov/nics/). The domain is 'Tcl repository name
proposals'. I don't remember them all but I don't think the others
there as clever.

Not having a job doing Tcl (assuming you want to keep using it) sounds like a
good reason itself to go to the conference. That's my excuse. I want to meet
all the people doing it. And now this free beer offer! Bryan, at least the
conference is in the same state... Go anyways.

Very good idea indeed. Name's not too bad either (whatever you start
calling it, that name'll stick even if it is wildly inappropriate, so
you might as well start with a good one.)
Unfortunately, I won't be able to make either conference this year, so
please can everyone put up summaries/code on the web? Like that,
those parts of the community that can't turn up will still be able to
benefit...

A sort of Tcl Blast type project? I was thinking along the lines of
setting up something on the web that would check up on the latest
versions of a range of extensions and ball them up into CD burnable
downloads. But it seems I need to sort out the "not enough hours in the
day" bug in my life first ;0) .

If we could get extension authors together and get their code into a
