Out of nowhere a computer I have has developed startup problems. When
it starts, I get a sequence of error messages. The following programs
all give me a "this program has performed an illegal operation and
will shut down" When I look at details it's always a problem in
ASICLAYER.DLL

the programs are in order
asicutil4
mmod
agsatellite
proxy
mobb

Proxy continually tries to re-start and has the same problem.
Everything seems ok, including NETBEUI on the peer local netowrk,
except there's no internet connection. The file asiclayer.dll exists
in the \windows\system directory, dated Sept 2000, I think.

I think it may have started when I installed netscape 4.78.

the computer is an original Win95, c: d: and e: partitions, zip drive,
cd-rom. It's got netscape 4.78 and IE 5.5. I'm running zonealarm
2.1.44.

I tried to de-install Netscape, but it didn't help. When I looked at
my other computer running the original Win95, there was no file named
asiclayer.dll. there was no file under that name in 2 computers
running Win98.

Do I just have a corrupt file, or is it more complicated? Where can I
get the file if that's the only problem. I'm worried I'll have to do
a complete re-install.
