Has anybody tried SpywareBlaster?
I am thinking of installing it however I wonder
if there is anything I should be aware of.

Thanks in advance

I personally don't use it,
but have not heard anything bad about it...

Hi Denny - I highly recommend it.
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/spywareblaster.html (Prevents malware Active
X installs) (BTW, SpyWare Blaster is not memory resident ... no CPU or
memory load - but keep it updated) The latest version as of this writing
will prevent installation or prevent the malware from running if it is
already installed, 828 as of this post, and it provides information and
fixit-links for a variety of parasites. It also has some additional useful
ancillary functions.

Updates are easy. It should be used in conjunction with AdAware

I highly recommend SpywareBlaster. It uses no memory or resources.
Works using the Registry. Absolutely zero problems with it.

I too love it and have no problems. I update it when I go to update the

Since I use Spybot S&D, and am able to remember to check for Spybot
updates by seeing the icon on my desktop, I use the link to the
spywareblaster.exe provided in Spybot's Immunize module to check for
updates at the same time.

I agree. The easiest way to remember all the updates is to do them all
at once on a periodic schedule. I try to look for update at least once
a week, usually on Fridays.

By the way Mister Charlie, just curious: why did you put the quote
below your signature line? That makes it really hard for people to reply.

Sorry, I've since eliminated the sig. It's the old OE bugaboo and I
keep forgetting to move it down...

I used to use OEFixit but I must be the only person in the world whose
computer repeatedly crashed because of it. Since I don't really NEED
sig files or colored lines I just dumped it.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

I use the Quick Launch Toolbar for shortcuts to all the programs I need
to update over the net. Very handy IMO. You can collapse it down to any
size you want and not lose space on the Taskbar, then popup a list of
programs with one click.

Highly recommended, as it prevents spyware from being installed. The is a
"Check for updates" option which either downloads additional threats or
informs about updated versions.

On my XP machine, using SpywareBlaster version 2.6.0, it added 5 new keys,
and altered 5 others. There is a recent update which I have not yet
installed but I do not expect it to add hundreds of keys. What version are
you using?

Corliss the hypocrite has a 127- character long line in his broken sig.

Oh, and it's a lie, too.

But the check only occurs once. Remember to periodically invoke the
application and then check updates. Several people had suggestions
for remembering. One of these days I'll automate it for myself. (I
hope before cobblers' children have new shoes.) One useful feature is
to show only the new threats. Very nice.

Watch out, however, that you don't disable something that you need at
a particular site you use -- advice applicable to several anti-ware
apls.

No. There was no line in his post longer than 72 characters. If your

What rubbish? You erroneously claimed that there was a 127-line
character in John's post <news:vnrhofb...@corp.supernews.com>.

There was no error in my claim.

Why else do you think Corliss has now fixed the error in his sig? (The

My post was based on InCtrl5 installation log -- I've looked at the keys you
mention, which I was unaware had been added by SB, and have to agree that
there are a lot of them. But as you said earlier, "if you don't care it's
OK". I consider SpywareBlaster to be well worth the addition of these keys.
The XP registry is so bloated it can easily stand a few hundred extra keys.
