This issue may happen due to many causes, so please check:
1. What registry keys have you removed? Please let me know what they are,
so I can see if they are related to this issue.
2. In the meantime, have you applied the latest service pack on this Win2K
pro client? If not, please apply it. If you have applied SP3, please make
sure that you have also applied this hotfix:
Q329405 DNS Name Resolution Does Not Work for Users Who Are Not
Administrators
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q329405
3. Enable the DNS client logging for advance checking:
1) To Enable Logging for the DNS Client Service:
Create a Dnsrslvr.log file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder with at
least one character or space in the file. You do not need to set logging
levels in the file. Then, restart the DNS Client Service by rebooting the
computer or by using the following commands at a command prompt:
net stop dnscache
net start dnscache
2) To Enable Logging for the DNS Client Registration Services:
Create an Asyncreg.log file in the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder with at
least one character or space in the file. You do not need to set logging
levels in the file. You must restart the computer for logging to start.
I hope this helps. Have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Ben Li
