Series from Warner Bros. Animation
Daffy Duck is back and better than ever as he suits up to play Duck Dodgers
in an all-new, half-hour action/comedy animated series for Cartoon Network.
Duck Dodgers showcases classic Looney Tunes characters Daffy Duck and Porky
Pig in the 24th ˝ century as they attempt to protect the planet Earth from
its enemies. Cartoon Network will premiere the original series from Warner
Bros. Animation in 2004. Each episode of Duck Dodgers will feature two
11-minute cartoons.
"Duck Dodgers is a perfect show for Cartoon Network," said Jim Samples,
General Manager and Executive Vice President, Cartoon Network. "It honors a
few of our favorite classic Looney Tunes characters with a fantastic series
involving exciting adventures and clever comedy with a modern sensibility. "
Duck Dodgers (Daffy Duck) is a hapless soul who was accidentally frozen
inside a spacecraft in the 21st century and thawed out 351 years later.
Through his scheming and lies, Duck has convinced the Earth's Defensive
Protectorate that he is a hero from the 21st century and has been given a
starship and crew - an adoring and eager young Space Cadet (Porky Pig).
Together they form a "galactic force" that must team up against Earth's
major foe, Mars, and its Martian Commander X-2 (played by Marvin the
Martian). Each episode will revolve around Duck Dodgers' adventures,
blundering successes and "day-saving" defeats. He's an unlikely hero who
somehow always manages to come out on top.
"This series embraces the timelessness of the classic Looney Tunes
characters," said Sander Schwartz, President, Warner Bros. Animation.
"We're really paying homage to the original Chuck Jones shorts by building
upon the unique intergalactic setting he created and letting these great
characters save the day --and the Earth--week in and week out."

character in at least one episode out of the first dozen, just because
he got mentioned once in a real-canon toon..."That makes him a CULT
figure with the fans! : D ")

Gossamer got trimmed down to sneakers in that sequal which ended with the
Earth destoying missle on its way while Duck Dodgers uses Eager Young Space
Cadet as target practice. Then there was a sequal to that where the children
of Martin and Dodgers are playing with blocks while Martins matter compress
goes wild compressing everything (including Martin and Dodgers) into little
blocks.
Let's face it Sailor Moon has more contiuity than the Duck Dodgers cartoons.

Unlikely as the Martian shown in Captain Shmideo is green and far smarter
than Martin ever was.

Both Brandt and Cervone have had plenty of experience with the "classic"
Warners characters and are damn funny to boot. It's about time they team up
with Minton for a series.

a canyon, but in the next frame, gets up like nothing every happened.

Brandt and Cervone did a Duck Dodgers pilot "trailer" that is absolutely
brilliant......if the show continues in the fashion of that pilot, it'll be
great. These guys KNOW classic Looney Tunes animation......they also did a
Tom and Jerry trailer that was fantastic....if you didn't know they were
recently made, you'd think they were done by the masters.

If Dini can help make Batman: The Animated Series the best cartoon
ever written for US tv, he can write a few good stories for this
series.

This is the first I've heard of a Tom and Jerry trailer.
But— for the past couple of months, Cartoon Network's Tom and Jerry
show has started off with a magnificent, very funny new one-minute
opening sequence which I've assumed was WBTVA work. Is this opening
sequence related to the trailer you mention?

Actually several of the cartoons show him crawling out of the canyon - the
recoveries are generally assumed to occur off screen. Usially if Wile E
Coyote gets some new gizmo it gets destroyed before the end of the cartoon or
he loses the plans. As aresult there are no points of continuity to worry
about while the Duck Dodgers have a lot.

It was a pitch...not something for the general public......but it sported a
mix of fantastic rough and finished animation that looked COMPLETELY like
the old school shorts...not any of the "Chuck Jones, Filmation and beyond"
crap T&J.
