Well, I just purchased another '92 Si for my son and it has the exact same
symptoms. The previous owner also says she also complained but was told
"they're all that way." I say BS.
Fortunately, my delivering dealer was able to pull up my records from '92
and called the Tech Line to see if these special parts had a number and
were available. Neither the service dept or parts dept were aware of any
"fix" for this problem. I guess that shows how well "service" did their
job in brushing off all the complaints :-)
Anyway, for anyone who has this problem, which is a very distinct buzzing
feeling in the clutch pedal which increases with rpm, here's the solution:
Order part no. 46960-SR3-999, which is a clutch dampening kit. You will
get a small box containing a mounting bracket, four small bolts, two
clips, a small u-shaped solid clutch line, a replacement flex hydraulic
line, and a small round fluid damper about an inch long and 1.5" in
diameter. Price is $129.16.
The installation is quite simple if you know where and how the parts are
supposed to be assembled. Don't pay the dealer to do it unless you are
helpless with a wrench. Write me and I'll tell you how everything fits
together if you need guidance.
Since the car I just purchased was out of warranty I got stuck with the
cost for Honda's screwup. I guess that's still better than not getting it
fixed at all, even though it should have been fixed under warranty long
ago.
