Are you a male or a female? (Sorry, I just couldn't resist:)
I don't know about WINGS, but Wenders says the long version of UNTIL THE
END OF THE WORLD is coming to DVD. That's got to be a good sign for the
rest of his catalog.

"Malkovich Malkovich."
I hope it is more coherant than the released version. Of course, it would
almost have to be.

I've read Wenders say that the long version would be impossible to get a
release because of all the legal issues involved in it. From the music rights
(it had one of the best soundtracks of recent years), to the fact that Warner
(barely) released it in the US and is most likely not interested in spending
any more money on it.
As much as I would LOVE to see it, I'm not counting on it any time soon.
New Yorker Home Video has the rights for this now and recently reissued it on
VHS. As of now, they haven't gotten into DVD though.
I asked Wenders about it at the National Association of Broadcasters show
last week. (He was there to put in a good word for the new 24p cameras
from Sony.) My question was, "Are you still showing the long version of
UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD occasionally?" And his answer, delivered with a
broad smile, was "No, but it is coming out on DVD."
I didn't press him on the specifics, but we were in Las Vegas, so I
assumed he meant a Region 1 DVD.
Too bad. The videos I've seen of this film are murky-looking with muddy
sound. If ever a film was in need of remastering for home video...
(Of course, it would be expecting too much of somebody having the brains
to reissue this alongside Talented Mr. Ripley. Don't you just hate it when
someone misses a perfect opportunity?)

That is GREAT to hear.

The US version was 2 1/2 hours.
But it seemed a lot longer
The five-hour version, which has only been shown occasionally.
Maybe this is finally giving Warner Home Video the excuse to release a
DVD-18?

"Malkovich Malkovich."
Excellent news. Would be very cool if this were true. I actually
maintain a modest little UTEOTW Director's Cut web page at
http://www.serve.com/brenta/endworld/ and the latest info I had was
from some Australian folks who attended a screening of the DC in late
Dec 99. Mr. Wenders was there and during Q&A, someone raised the
question of a future video release of the DC (of course). Mr. Wenders
said it would be somewhat difficult since there were a lot of different
parties who had a controlling interest in distribution of the film and
didn't neccessarily see eye-to-eye on everything. Glad to hear that
things may be looking up! :)
