Well I had my 2 month post op aftercare today.

Since I am still suffering from the dry eye problem, the ghosting and
generally cloudy and blurred vision in my left eye I told the doc who was
testing me (not the same one as before).

She tells me that I have a 1.0 in my left eye and its gotten worse from the
.75 I had a month ago. She also says they wont enhance an eye that is under
2.0 and that it "may" clear up by itself in 4-5 months.

Lying b*stards!

I was told my vision was on course and the problem of ghosting and
cloudiness was due to dryness and that it would recover in about 2 months.
Now its doubled the time to "possibly" get better and if it doesn't tough
sh*t Im stuck with it. Having to close my left eye when approaching traffic
signs coz I cant make them out with the ghosting.

I am about to write a letter to Optimax and give them a piece of my mind
along with details of this newsgroup, various web sites all over the world
PLUS the fact I am a pissed off web designer who can easily register a .com
name and put MY FEELINGS ONLINE for the world to see. Plus contact trading
standards, citizens advice Watchdog etc about the blatant lies that were fed
to me.

I didn't blow steam in the place as I wanted to talk it over with my
girlfriend and work colleagues first but now Im ready for war.

Regards,

R.

Hi Rikki,

I'm afraid that writing and complaining to Optimax will not get you very
far because these bunch of incompetent retards don't give a flying f*#k
about their patients. They operate like a production line, getting patients
in & out as quickly as possible for maximum profit. Complain too much and
they simply hide behind there lawyers and the small print on the consent
form that you signed.

I had PRK at Optimax and the surgeon, Mr Anupam Chatterjee, who now works
for the Ultralase chain of clinics, messed up the operation by not properly
aligning the laser during treatment. This left me with a decentred ablation
zone which, among other problems associated with a decentred zone, makes it
impossible for me to safely drive at night. I am awaiting clinical trials
at Moorfields Eye Hospital to perform customised wavefront technology to
try and correct the damage caused by Optimax and their surgeon.

Nope, short sighted... I was told that due to the possibility they could
make me long sighted they wouldnt operate again.

True, but I didnt sign anything saying I could be lied to and led up the
garden path.

I've actually experienced a similar situation to yours, my surgery was 15
months ago. The prescription does change, and the cloudy/blurry/double
vision does improve and stabilize slowly slowly slowly. Particularly where
there is dry eye syndrome. Were they to have operated on me at 3 months as
they originally thought they could, I would now have a very very wrong
prescription, because the measurement is much different now than it was at 3
months. Had I not had dryeye that would not have been the case. .

Please be patient. The ghosting went away after about 8 months. Used lotsa
preservative free drops, and an ointment like Lacrilube at night. Dry eyes
heal much more slowly and irregularly, but they do heal.

I thought it would never get better, but eventually it did. I still need a
retreatment, but nobody is telling me that a 1.0 or 1.5 is too small to
treat...sounds like your people are just not going to do anything for you
until the eyes stabilize, and that may take a year. Sorry to say, but you'll
be much much better off waiting, believe me. They're probably right.

I must disagree with comments that i hear about optimax.

I had my surgery in feb 01 i started out at -4.5 and -1.25 astig in my left
eye and -6.25 and -1.5 astig in my right eye.

I was discharged this week (6/7/01) with a perscription of +.25 and -.25
astig in my left and -.25 and no astig in my right eye.

I have always found the staff helpful and never like a conveyor belt system
as i read in these news groups.

I had the surgery at their manchester office by Dr A Heyenes(excuse the
spelling), yes i suffered from dry eyes and still do occasionally(my job,
computer screen and florescent lights 8 hours a day atleast) but everything
was explained to me and even if it was'nt i could have found it out by the
web or newsgroups.

All in all i have had no problems with optimax.

I would have to agree with them Im afraid, I was holding off judgement until
my 2 month aftercare so I could see the whole picture but now it appears
clear.

When I had my bi-lat LASIK op there were another 6 people sitting in the
waiting room waiting for the laser so I would tend to say yes a bit like a
production line.

*ALL* of my appointments, the introduction and initial check-up, the
treatment, the 1 day aftercare, 1 week and one month aftercare were all
rescheduled at least and yesterday I was told to pop back in 3 months but to
phone "around January as our computer only books 5 weeks in advance and you
need to notify us" funny that, my dentist remembers when Ive not been for 6
months and sends a letter out.

The doc who treated me was really helpful but his colleague moved all the
goalposts yesterday and thats what annoyed me. We shall see how things
develop...

Add your comments to the Optimax section of
http://astele.co.uk/laser/default.asp
Great site- really helpful when deciding which UK clinic to use.
