this one... my head aches and my sides hurt.

This was... off-beat. Boy genius scientist,
android assistant still learning proper emotional
reactions, Mix Juice, a manager right out of
Excel Saga, moon project using a roller coaster,
rubber bands, and an arrow...

A hilarious episode. I can't decide if I liked
the folk artist or the former child star's segments
more... but all were great. Oh, did I mention
the nudity? O_O;;;

Funny, funny first installment. Loved it!
Grade: A.

"Gee, Dr. Tsukumu, what are we going to do tonight?"

"The same thing we do every night, Kiku 8... try to go to the moon!"

The moon landings were a hoax, and super-wealthy boy genius Tsukumu
is out to prove it by sending his own expedition there. Of course,
normal rockets are environmentally unfriendly, so different methods
need to be tried to preserve the Earth in the process... anything
from a giant slingshot to a ship launched by the power of carbonated
beverages!

Unfortunately, due to a unit conversion error by one of the contractors,
the first attempt goes awry and sends his android assistant, Kiku 8,
careening through space, not to return for some time and tossing a
wrench into plans for future testing.

Enter Mix Juice, a new musical group formed from out-of-work idols --
the former child star, the traditional Japanese enki singer, the folk
singer, and the rock star -- and their Nabeshin-lookalike manager.
They need jobs desperately, and a debut concert from the moon would
certainly give their careers a boost, so guess who the new test pilots
are going to be...

I consider this show the spiritual successor to G-on Riders... it's
technicolor bright, doesn't take itself seriously, and has a hefty
dose of fan service sprinkled on top.

Marvelous stuff, and I can't wait for episode 2. There are better
shows out this season, but there aren't any that are more fun.

High points:

* Kiku 8 (always steals the scene)
* product placement for Tsukumu's superpowered slide rule
* Sakura's internet auction site for underwear
* Incredible-Hulk fairies cheering on the folk-singer
* the music: good OP/ED songs and great background tunes
