Well, I'm using the release of the Windows final as a hook to
ask you again when Opera 7 for Linux can be expected. I know
ASAP, but perhaps you can say what chance there is that a TP is
released in the next few days/week/month?

Regards,

Christian

I hope (but I can't promise) within some weeks. A long list
known issues will be included in that release.

I'm running Opera 7 final via Crossover Office (a wine derivative) and it
works rather well. Saving downloads does not work, though.

Will you provide the Opera 6 look and feel? The Opera 7 look might be OK
for the windows guys, but hey look all the place wasted with the funny
buttons...
I know, there might be skins to adjust the look, but it would be nice to
have a 'standard' from Opera.

ACK. Talking about look-and-feel: I'm feeling that it looks as
if the "Contacts"-tab in the sidebar isn't needed. Even if Opera
7 will suport mail/news/whatever modules I don't want to use
them and so I won't be using this tab. Will I be able to switch
it off somehow or am I even able to do so now? It's bloat and
it's annoying :/

In "opera6.ini"

[HotListWindow]
Show Contacts=0

; 0: Hide contacts tab and page
; 1: Show contacts tab and page

What do you mean by "standard" If standard is to use the native Qt widget look
of 6 then that can be difficult. The "windows" skin that one can select in the
windows version depends on using the windows API for drawing the controls in
various places. This is more difficult with Qt but I have not investigated
this fully yet (too many other issues to deal with).

As for wasted space, where do you think space is wasted? I have my own
ideas, but maybe you have others. I consider that a bug which should be
fixed.

re: wasted real estate in O7/Windows:

It should be easy, or at least possible to
- merge the main bar and the address bar on to one line
- add/remove individual functions/icons from toolbars, a la Phoenix
- hide the page bar when only one tab is present

And the way the page- and status- bars are merged when both
are at the bottom makes it appear to be a huge chunk of
wasted space. It's not, really, but when both are empty,
it looks big enough to host a football match.

Thanks for asking

You can drag&drop pretty much everything. On my Main bar are Back, Forward
and some other buttons, the address field from the address bar and the
status field from the status bar.

You can right-click pretty much everything and select "Remove from
toolbar".

Remove the status bar altogether. Then add a "status field" to the end of
the main toolbar.

No. They are still different. On the page bar, you can't add any buttons.
The address bar will only be visible on web pages but not while reading
mail, the navigation bar has a "auto" option that will only show it on
demand, and the banner will only show an the main bar. One could argue to
just have *one* bar with all the icons one need but I wouldn't like that
either.

For example, I have address bar off and the address field on the main bar.
But sometimes I will use Ctrl+F8 to show the address bar to access some
special feature. I have personal bar off but still configure it to show my
favorite search engines. In case I need it, I'll just turn it on. Now you
could call "Personal bar" "Toolbar4", but I'd rather call it "Personal
bar". :)

Well, that's nice, but I'm rather fond of the status bar, and
it often requires the entire width of the window to be of
use. No, it's the tabs (page bar) that waste the space, IMO:
in my case, the majority of the time it displays only one tab,
with redundant info in it. In that case, it should be hidden.
I'll put up with the loss of window real estate when there
are two or more tabs showing, since it then becomes useful.
