I want to thank you all for implementing a properly working
and seriously tested version of the yEncoder and yDecoder.
Doing such a good job for a major newsreader with a complete
beta-test in such a short time is wonderful.
In a time where "deadlines" are more important than "quality"
for some companies you've shown that it is still possible to
resist the general trends and stay with the most important
requirement: Take your time - and do it right !
You have also shown that it _is_ possible to announce
such things to public - and keep them up to date in all
details - even if they are delayed for quality reasons.
You have done far more than "supporting yEnc":
You have given the proof that you are one of the best
software companies over all.
I wish you the very best luck for all this and all future
version of AGENT. From the bottom of my heart.
Thanks for the fascinating experience.

I have already said earlier that, as a non-binary-only user, I will
not really benefit much from yEnc support in Agent, but that's not the
point. The point _is_ that I am indeed really amazed how fast Forte
was able to get this release done. Between the time the users started
demanding the feature and the time at which Agent 1.91 was available,
not too much time passed. The delay of one week doesn't make things
any worse - it's the contrary: I'd rather wait a week longer than get
something that's not really working and partly useless.
I also appreciate the way Forte informs the public and lets the users
take part in important decisions. This strategy is the best thing a
company can done to make sure that its software is of the highest
quality and will actually be accepted by the users.
Now, let me wish all the binary-freaks out there happy yEncing! I'm
glad that Agent is the best newsreader for both those seeking
discussions, and those seeking binary files!
Greetings
Nils

And many thanks to you too, Juergen, for your great work!

IMO, you deserve a lot of credit for forcing people to crawl out of
their boxes on this subject. My ISP (RCN) has always had a pretty
good news service for an ISP, but over the last year or so I've seen
binary retention decline from almost a week to 27 hours, due in large
part to misguided people irresponsibly posting things like entire CDs
and even DVDs. If *nothing* else changed, exclusive use of yenc would
increase that 27 hours to 38 hours, which would make a huge difference
in the completion and availability of binary postings in general.

"But I was only testing yEnc, Mr Vice Squad person" is the best excuse
for downloading porn that I've heard. :)

Hey Jürgen, why are you spelling your name "Juergen"? It can't be a 7-bit
ASCII issue; you're the one telling the world that all newsservers handle
8-bit.

This is an issue of "codepages". I could use:
=?iso...Jürgen Helbing
but then a lot of neticens would see a strange letter instead of the
'ue' - which is the official ASCII-replacement for the Umlaut 'ü'
I'd rather ant that _everybody_ sees "Juergen" than J?rgen" .

Racial bigotry? Where did that come from? Drei jahre studiert ich Deutsch
(vor länger, länger zeit). I always go out of my way to use those high
characters. I have little cheat sheet to the side of my screen so that I
can type words like "façade", "mañana", and "scheiß" without going to the
character map program.

What font are you using, wingdings? They are all proper ISO-8859-1
characters. Use a font which matches this:
